And I LOVE heavy weather for giving our street performers proper exposure.

Joanne Barker actually has a proper album and career now. But it all started with this:

If it's room to grow that your heart needs before it knows...
Well, honey, I am acres and acres... for you to sow, and then grow, grow and grow and grow...

If it's brand new love...
If I'm not the one that you're dreaming of...
I am an empty boat shore, hop on in, we'll sail away, and I'll carry you to her door... to her door, carry, carry you

Or better yet: I am an empty boat at shore, push me away at low tide and you won't see me no more, no more, no more...

Well, she was certainly living that lifestyle earlier this summer. Don't know if it was hipster intentional.

Matt is from Winnipeg. I have absolutely no idea how he ended up here (hopefully through one of my Free Press columns while I was suffering out there), but he is madly in love with St. John's and local artists. One of his songs about home even includes references to Signal Hill.

Anyhow... I'd totally move to the mainland for a weekend a month with this. Perfection. And then he sings and there's no word for how hot he is with that voice.

The first time I clicked play on this video, I was expecting to hear, "Oh me, oh my, I think I'm gonna die. I wish I'd never taken this excursion around the bay!"

The actual is much better. These girls from town knowns what they're at, b'y.

EDIT: It still freaks me out, genuinely, that Acajack knew that, although not Irish, Costelo was an old school, 100% Newfoundland name equivalent to Squires or O'Reilley. How the **** did he know that, I still don't know.

Castlegar’s own Frazey Ford, backed up by Al Green’s band. She’s also a member of The Be Good Tanyas.

The Barr Brothers, from Montreal. The two brothers are originally Americans who moved to Montreal 10 years ago from Boston.

Not my kind of music, but this young Calgary artist had a video with 135,000,000 views before her first album came out.

Moonface, aka Spencer Krug. From Penticton and Victoria. Also known from Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, Frog Eyes, and Swan Lake, so pretty much a giant of the Canadian indie music scene. I believe he’s living in Finland now?

Caribou, aka Manitoba, aka Dan Snaith. Originally from Dundas Ontario, I believe, although I think he’s lived in London England for many years now.
