The Address Residence Sky View, at a height of over 230 metres, will feature 532 serviced furnished apartments and will be the latest addition to The Address Hotel + Resorts' portfolio and a flagship property for the brand.
Emaar said in a statement that the 50-storey hotel, residence and serviced apartment twin-tower complex has been designed by the architects of Burj Khalifa, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

The property will also serve as a business hotel of about 180 keys, the statement added.
Mohamed Alabbar, chairman of Emaar Properties, said: "The Address Residence Sky View will be another impressive, iconic structure to the Dubai skyline, offering unparalleled views of Downtown Dubai and beyond.
"The project builds on the growth of the property market and tourism sectors of Dubai, offering investors a premium choice of home in the most prestigious square kilometre on earth."

It will be linked directly to the Dubai Metro and The Dubai Mall via an air-conditioned travelator.
Spanning the tower complex will be a unique 'Sky Bridge', which includes a signature restaurant, ballroom, infinity pool with amenity deck, which offers 360-degree vistas of Downtown Dubai and panoramic views of the Gulf.

Six Flags theme park planned for Dubai

Quote:
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- Dubai could soon have some new roller coasters to go with its man-made islands and the world's tallest skyscraper.

Newspapers in the Middle Eastern emirate reported Sunday that local property developer Meraas Holding has reached a deal with Six Flags Entertainment to build a theme park in the city's largely industrial outskirts.

The park will be in the Jebel Ali area, which is home to the region's biggest port and aluminum smelter. It is expected to open in 2017. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Dubai previously had a deal with Six Flags and several other companies to build multiple theme parks in a different area known as Dubailand. Plans for that Six Flags park were scrapped in the wake of Dubai's financial crisis, which came to a head in 2009.

Doesn't Singapore already have buildings like this? Yes...Marina Bay Sands. I love the height and like the design; but, it's already been done.

In the past, Dubai has been known for "unique" designs.

They removed the article. It was there though at one point because I always make sure the links work when I post something. Sometimes the Herald gets rid of old articles likewise the same could be said for CNN, NY Times, Washington Post, ect.. Its annoying if one wants to go back to read on a certain project.

I tried getting the same article somewhere else, but it just linked me back to the Herald. In the original post, I put the most important information. The rest was just rambling on about the history of the site if I remember correctly.

Arrow The prolonged recovery of UAE's Construction and Real-Estate Industry from recession

I am a student of American Embassy School conducting a research for IB diploma Extended Essay. My research question is "To what extent have the economic policies, which have been adopted in the UAE during 2009-2013, helped recovering its construction and real-estate industry from recession?" I would be grateful if you could spare a few minutes to kindly fill out the quick survey (link below) to the best of your knowledge.

I've always been amused by the extension of the Six Flags brand to places outside of Texas that never had six flags over them. Perhaps the history of the Kingdom may reveal changes in rulership that warrant such a designation, or maybe in keeping with the theme that "everything is bigger and better in Dubai", this place will be named Twelve Flags Over Dubai. Who knows?

Moshe Safdie was responsible for that one.

Outside of the Burj, I can't say that there is anything unique about Dubai's architecture; the most ambitious designs appear to have been shelved after 2008. It also appears that the new proposals are shorter than the supertalls that rose at the same time as the Burj. Perhaps the developers are becoming more realistic about their expectations?

'Aladdin City' work to start next year

Quote:
Construction work on 'Aladdin City', a project inspired by the tales of Aladdin and Sindbad, will start next year, Dubai Municipality chief told Emirates 24|7.

“We plan to start work on the project next year. We have our own funds to finance the project,” Director-General Hussain Nasser Lootah told this website on sidelines of the third Government Summit that concluded on Wednesday.

The project, which was announced in April 2014, will have three towers, comprising commercial and hotel space, with the towers spread over a distance of 450 metres on Dubai Creek. The total cost has not been revealed.

“The project aims to develop towers to be the icons of legends of the past with a touch of beauty and tourism characteristic of the city. It comes in the prime location of Dubai Creek maintaining the activities of the port heritage. The project is located outside the zone waiting to be registered with the World Heritage by Unesco,” Lootah had said.

It will have air-conditioned bridges with moving floor to connect the towers, driveways and parking lots. Moreover, the shape of the bridge that will link the buildings represents the form of exotic marine life such as dragon and snakes.

Three towers will have a built up area of 110,000 square metres with the highest tower of 34 storeys. The other two towers will have 26 and 25 floors respectively. There will be a total parking space for 900 cars.

Al Rostamiani Group builds the largest vertical maze in Dubai

Quote:
Mazes come in all shapes and sizes; as demonstrated by the makers of largest vertical maze which adorns the 55 story ‘Maze Tower’ in Dubai.

Completed in January 2012, the tower sits on Sheikh Zayed Road in the heart of Dubai Financial District.

The intricate balconies found on the front and rear facades form the shape of a maze, which also make-up real puzzles.

Mr. Marwan Abdulla Al Rostamani, Chairman, Al Rostamani Group said: “The creation of this unique building was a prestigious project for the Al Rostamani Group which drew its inspiration from the creative and innovative changes taking place across Dubai and the UAE.”

The natural stones used throughout the Maze Tower have been hand selected for their aesthetic and tactile appeal. The same stone, Brazilian Verde Bahia is used throughout the exterior.

The darker greenish hue of the building corner posts is achieved using a water jet treatment which creates an even, matt surface. The lighter hue used to emphasize the Maze is achieved using a flame technique that roughens the surface and creates a lighter, more reflective surface.

“We always wanted The Maze to look like it was carved out of one massive piece of rock; with the constant play of light and shadow to render it alive” said Mr. Hassan Abdulla Al Rostamani, Vice Chairman of the Group and The Maze Tower Conceptualizer.

Fire rips through Dubai skyscraper

Quote:
A fire has swept through the Torch skyscraper in Dubai, one of the tallest residential buildings in the world.

Strong winds helped the blaze to spread across the 336.1m (1,105ft) high building in the marina district.

One eyewitness told the BBC "there was debris flying everywhere, falling into neighbouring buildings". Later reports said the fire was under control.

It is not known what caused the blaze. Hundreds of people were evacuated and there are no reports of any casualties.

'Like Titanic'
Footage posted on social media showed what looked like molten glass and pieces of masonry falling down.
