What's so awesome about poverty? Is someone afraid to mention the obvious -- the infrastructure sucks, the people are poor?

On the one hand, India is a true democracy... and people in the US usually associate democracy with prosperity, but somehow this association doesn't work in India's case. On the other hand, China is definitely not a democracy at all, yet its infrastructure is modern and clean and hi-tech. There is no poverty.

He didn't say poverty was awesome. He said the photos were.
There's hundreds of millions of Chinese still living in poverty. The economic boom is centered in the urban areas - much rural China is still poor.
