More than one guy right now. It's a major clusterf*** right now. I'm not even a Co-op regular and it was hard to find anything.

Safeway may be overpriced, but at least there's a uniform standard of quality to their stores. With Co-op, you never know what you'll get...their Beltline store is great, but the ones near me (Brentwood/Dalhousie area) are pretty rundown. They look like they were last renovated in 1983 or so.

Agreed about the crazy lines and aggressive shoppers at Superstore! Too bad I love their PC products so much...

Every store has its benefits. Superstore is good for boxed stuff, but terrible for fruits, vegetables, and meat. Co-Op has a good deli, and meat department. Safeway has a good bakery, and some poultry Co-Op doesn't get. I have a theory the meat gets sold to Co-Op first, what they reject goes to Safeway, what they reject goes to IGA, and what all three of them reject (the cheap no quality crap, leftover scraps) is loaded up by the truckload to the Superstore.

And you don't even want to KNOW what happens to the stuff Superstore doesn't want!

Wigs, Wegman's is a US chain and a NE one at that- there is about as much chance of them opening here as Winn-Dixie.

As others have said, you need to find another Co-Op. Midtown Market has a very good produce section- and there are always the farmers' markets.

Yep, most of the farmers markets open this weekend or next. Cochrane opened this morning with not too bad attendence considering the weather, and I believe Bearspaw is tomorrow and Millarville next weekend.

furry,
I'm well aware. However, it would be great to have one here and see the existing supermarkets feeble attempts to compete. It really is (one of if not) the best grocery store in the U.S.

Oh, on that we agree! I was knocked on my ass by the one in Ithaca- would kill to get something like that.

Wegman's is pretty sweet, but the only one I've been to (Cherry Hill, NJ) is HUGE, like superstore huge.

Stumbled upon this on another website (connect2edmonton.com), posted by user IanO

Nice example of 'urban bigbox'

^If it was from Connect2Edmonton, IanO is Coldrsx on here I believe.

Anyway yeah, something like that for Home Depots and Costcos would be great.

That's on the hipstery portion of Queen Street in Toronto - although I had heard the Home Depot pulled out. Not sure if that is really true or not. Either way, a good example of urban Big box.

Oddly enough I just found out about store #2 only a few days ago. It's very, very far away from me (yes, much further than Balzac, I live in the north boons) so I'm not too excited about it.

That being said, Toronto doesn't even have 2 (remember, Mississauga doesn't count!) so we're going to be ahead of them. Then again, so is Edmonton.

Love the Taco Bell though. But what a horrible, horrible layout the whole place has. What's the status on Best Buy?

But Crossiron Mills isn't in Calgary, God damn Rocky View has to ruin everything!

It's only a matter of time. Muahahaha.

Bass Pro actually lists the store here as Rocky View, Alberta. I wonder how many people have been stumped on that one.

The Future Shop at Deerfoot Meadows has the entire wireless section curtained off for renovations. If I recall, it'll be like Best Buy, with a more open concept plan and consultation desk things.

So the former Wee Book Inn, on 17th next to FARM, closed a few weeks ago and (like the "Himals" space across the street) was snapped up in just a few days. Turns out it's going to be the new location for Steeling Home, a cute shop on 11th (the "Connaught Park" strip) that sells... it's hard to describe; they sell fancy drawer pulls and little doodads for the home. Anyway, that means they're pulling out of 11th St- and this concerns me. Michelangelo's moved out last fall; Giant 45 relocated to 17th (east of 4th, not sure of exact location), and that "Likrich" store that did a huge reno of the glass art place was open for what seemed like mere weeks before closing. That's 4 businesses. Now to be fair none of these has "for lease" (we'll see about Steeling Home because they aren't actually closed yet), but this strip was looking so interesting and unique a mere year ago and now, Good Earth renos aside, it looks pretty desperate.

Maybe something cool is going in Michelangelo's.

I'm still miffed that the landlords ran California Pizza out of that strip. They had some of the best pizza in town.
