A top engineering and design firm with more than 230 office around the globe plans to move its headquarters to Dallas.
California-based Jacobs Engineering Group already has more than 300 people working in the Harwood Center office tower in downtown Dallas.
The 69-year-old company could bring almost 100 top officers and support staff to Dallas if it goes ahead with the head office move, real estate brokers who are tracking the deal say.

“We hope to make an official announcement later this summer.”

The company would be one of the top 10 public firms based in Dallas.

Real estate brokers say that landing a firm like Jacobs is a big plus for downtown which is seeing hundreds of millions of dollars in investment and development.
“Absolutely it is extremely positive for the Dallas central business district,” said Phil Puckett, executive vice president with commercial real estate firm CBRE.
Such major moves downtown validate efforts made to revive Dallas’ core, said Joel Pustmueller, partner with Peloton Commercial Real Estate.
The ultra high-rise residential building would sit next door to Dallas’ landmark Fountain Place tower at Field Street and Munger Avenue.
Chicago-based apartment developer Amli Residential is eyeing the project, which would be built on land now used for surface parking.

“We don’t have anything to share at this time; we are very early in the process,” said Amli’s Taylor Bowen.
If the development gets off the ground, it would be Dallas’ tallest apartment tower and loftiest residential high-rise since the 42-story Museum Tower condo building opened three years ago.
“I just think this is another indication of what’s going on in downtown Dallas,” said John Crawford of the economic development group Downtown Dallas Inc.
“There is a lot of interest in new residential in the downtown area.”

More than a dozen high-rise apartment projects are in the works in downtown and Uptown.
And more than 6,600 rental units are under construction in central Dallas.

The land was originally planned for a twin tower to the green glass, rocket-shaped skyscraper that was built in the 1980s.
Ross Perot Jr.’s Hillwood Urban owns the former Bank of America motor bank property just north of the property Amli is considering.
Hillwood Urban has designed an almost 50-story office tower for that block.
^ Great news, but be very wary of AMLI. They are not known for cutting edge architecture. More like cutting corners architecture.

I had to check out some of AMLI's previous high-rises for myself and IT really does seem like it could be a hit or miss however there are a few really nice designs that leaves the positive side of me think this could be a nice proposal.
This week Cuban purchased almost 13 acres on Stemmons Freeway between Oak Lawn and Continental avenues where he plans to build the Maverick’s new practice center and — eventually — a mixed-use development.
Cuban’s land buy is smack in the middle of one of Dallas’ hottest urban real estate markets.
The former showroom and warehouse neighborhood northwest of downtown Dallas is being rebuilt with hundreds of new apartments, restaurants, retail and hotel rooms.
Some proponents of the Design District are already saying the area is destined to the “the next Uptown.”
“There are a lot of very ambitious plans down there, and it will be interesting in the next couple of years to see how it pans out,” said Zach Johnston with apartment developer Fairfield Residential, which just purchased a building site in the district. “Long term there will be a tremendous amount of growth in that area.”
The Mavericks big play in the Design District will turn up the heat even more, property agent say.

And nearby at Riverfront Boulevard and the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, investors who have blocked up more than 40 acres of land are hoping to sell it soon for a major mixed-use project on the banks of the Trinity River.

Downtown Dallas Inc.’s John Crawford said it’s good news that Cuban is “expanding his involvement and investment in the downtown urban area vs. the options he had for establishing his operation outside the greater downtown area.
“This will ultimately be much more than just a new practice facility as this will add synergy for future development and enhance value in this area,” Crawford said.
Dunhill Partners, the largest owner in the Design District, is currently working on three new towers in the neighborhood. One of the buildings at Hi-Line and Turtle Creek will include a Virgin Hotel and apartments.
Dunhill is also working on a Design District office tower and a high-rise on Stemmons that will include a Joie de Vivre Hotel and Illume apartments.
Fairfield Residential’s planned residential tower will take the place of a warehouse building on Turtle Creek.
Johnston said the developer is still trying to decide how big the building will be and hopes to start construction next year.
Quote:
“The Design District has its own ethos — that’s beautiful in and of itself,” he said. “That’s what makes the fabric of a city.”
Quote:
“The Design District has, and always will have, the design showrooms as the anchor to the neighborhood,” Hutchinson said. “They are the heart and soul of the Design District.”

Crescent Real Estate developed and owns the Ritz-Carlton Hotel across the street from the Crescent complex. And Crescent is developing the new McKinney & Olive office and retail project that opens in Uptown this summer.
A year after announcing more than $40 million in renovations, downtown Dallas landmark The Adolphus Hotel is entering its final phase of improvements.
Real estate private equity firm Rockbridge Capital, which owns The Adolphus, said Tuesday the final stage of the hotel’s facelift will include improvements to the lobby and new public spaces, restaurants and retail concepts.

Among the changes is a “complete reimagining” of the hotel’s restaurant The French Room, Rockbridge said. The eatery will have an updated menu, a new bar and a salon featuring art by Texas artists.

Other renovations planned for the final stage include:
The re-introduction of the lobby bar and Tea at the Adolphus, a street-side coffee shop
A Meditterranean bistro

“Unique retail offerings” from local artisans

Most of the work is slated to be complete in early 2017, with the spa and salon opening this summer.

“The Adolphus has been an essential part of the Dallas community for over 100 years and we are excited to reenergize the property while celebrating its history, architecture, and European roots,” Rockbridge CEO Jim Merkel said in a prepared statement.

It's taken a few years, but the long awaited, luxury 15-story condo tower on Lake Grapevine within the $1 billion Lakeside DFW mixed-use development in Flower Mound is slated to get under construction next week.
The developer, Dallas-based Realty Capital Management, plans to host a groundbreaking ceremony for the tower at Lakeside Parkway and Edgemere Road on Tuesday.

In April, Realty Capital unveiled plans for a spa — The Spa at Lakeside Tower — within the tower totaling about 4,700 square feet.
Dallas-based Humphreys & Partners is the project architect. The condo tower is slated for completion by fall 2017.
The masterplanned district of HARWOOD in Dallas was born when the Rolex building was completed in 1984. Developed by Harwood International, Uptown Dallas' first office development laid the groundwork for the emerging neighbourhood, which subsequently became a magnet for premier office space, residences, and retail. The expansion of HARWOOD has continued in recent years, and the district could soon be celebrating construction of its tenth development.
