Very strange there is a building under construction downtown and we don't even have an idea of what it's going to look like. They can't do any worse than the Sheraton so that's kind of relieving.

I'm not worried. They seem to take a lot of pride in that property. I don't expect gorgeous, but it should be pretty nice.

So, got a chance to check out the Marriott tower crane. The crane is only 9 masts tall with no climbing frame installed. This leads me to believe that either the height of Marriott has been decreased or that each floor will only be about a 7 foot spacing, lol.

This whole project irks me. Not sure why the final design is shrouded in secrecy. But I see know no possible increase to the tower crane height.

At least it's going vertical now.

I believe in the past that the climbing frame has been added when needed to expand the height. At least that's what I recall from 44 Monroe and I think CityScape

Yep, it's happened a few times in the past.

I wouldn't say that it's shrouded in secrecy. When RED added the condos above the hotel we didn't have a final rendering of the building until very late in the construction.

As far as the height being reduced, there haven't been any building permits indicating that the height will be reduced (remember when it was started it was planned as 26 floors- there was later a building permit reducing it to 19).

walk by it today on my lunch and they are making a Sun's mural with the purple and orange and were painting the gorilla. SO probably just putting something there so it's not just vacant windows.

I can confirm that. Went by today and no white paint on the facade. Just windows with purple and orange Sun's murals.

Also, the Marriot is progressing FAST now. Already, concrete is 1 level above the ground.

Here's a couple update pics of Luhrs Marriott. On a side note, hotel will be 263' tall, but it looks like this will have a very small footprint which should give the illusion of looking taller than it really is.

We have? This is all I remember...

...and comparing the rendering to RonnieFoos' picture, I'm not even sure it's matching up.
