I've seen cast in place go up at about the same rate so I don't think the incentive is speed so much as lower cost and less weather dependence.
As for your comment about less workers needed, I'm not sure why you'd be concerned. If less workers are required, the structure will cost less, allowing the buyers to have more money left over for other things, which creates jobs elsewhere. When you save on labour, the total number of jobs in the entire economy ends up being the same, you just have more stuff. You'll note that long-term unemployment has been in the same range for a century despite huge leaps in labour saving technology. It's nothing to worry about.
P.S. Think about it from the worker's perspective too- do you really want to be doing an unnecessary job that could easily be streamlined, just for the sake of having a job? Most people I know in jobs like that have pretty low morale. Much better to eliminate those jobs in favor of truly meaningful work that needs to be done and affords workers a sense of dignity and pride.
