In Quebec City or Saint John or the New England cities the old areas mostly feel like they are preserved in amber. You get what you get and in growing cities those areas become more and more gentrified and unaffordable. In Halifax you might get a narrow glass tower shoehorned in behind a stone mansion built in 1810.
I've never been to Providence, but having studied it a bit, it seems like an interesting counterpoint to Halifax. It's a very Nova Scotian-looking city and offers a glimpse of what Halifax might have looked like with less redevelopment and more conservative post-war architecture. Charming in its own way, but it makes me appreciate the fact that (against all odds?) Halifax has actually ended up with some decent-looking, large-scale, obviously-21st-century architecture (whereas many similar/larger cities haven't, yet). I'd imagine the contrast between the larger Prairie cities vs. the larger US Great Plains cities is similar.

Yes this is Selkirk College's main campus. Possibly the same architect as SFU.
Btw the first community college in BC.

The areas of Providence around Brown and just across the river from downtown look really great. It's interesting in that the wooden residential areas contain a lot of buildings that are exactly the same as in NS while there are some styles that don't exist there (e.g. Scottish dormers) or in NS (e.g. Federal style).

The downtown looks turbo American, with a few big buildings, highways, and parking lots.

Providence's development "arc" was roughly identical to Halifax until the late 1800's. Since that time they've almost been opposites. Halifax missed out on a lot of early 20th century industrial development but then boomed again during and after WWII, then slipped into the doldrums in the 90's (actually a prosperous time in a lot of the US) and now is booming again. It's strange to me to see such large intact central residential areas in Providence. In Halifax, half of those houses would have been knocked down for postwar apartment buildings. The surviving wooden buildings in Providence are also much closer to original condition and much better maintained. Real estate prices seem pretty comparable.

Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek NG) tweeted out this image of Vancouver today. I assume he's relocating for one of the many shows filmed here:

Was a gorgeous day here in Vancouver, I have officially moved back and have escaped winter! yay!

Granville Island around 1 pm, was really busy, near impossible to find a parking spot.

Putain, j'y crois pas... Avant de voir ça à la Défense pleine de défiance, tu vas attendre longtemps, gros.
Même pas en rêve ici à Paris.

L’éclairage est permanent, la photo ajoute cependant un filtre rosé.

This was taken from the hampstead tower. I lived there circa 06-07. I used to stare at the oratory from my balcony.

There's new 2019 streetview imagery for Halifax so here are a few captures:

Barrington Street with the largely or entirely complete Roy Building. The tower under construction across the street is now called the Jade.

Cogswell interchange area, still not yet redeveloped. This is essentially an onramp/offramp from an interchange and is hostile to pedestrians, but eventually is destined to be turned into a public space. It has a lot of potential.

Spring Garden Road. You can see the Citadel at the end of Dresden Row.

Gottingen Street. Not the most beautiful part of town but it's developing impressively quickly. The buildings off in the distance are the Pearl and Nova Centre.

George Street. Too bad the Dominion Public Building tower is hidden behind scaffolding.

Granville Street dead-ends at the Cogswell interchange.
