I've always appreciated that Atlanta's skyscrapers are refreshingly free of postmodernism. John Portman was an underrated genius

Park George in Surry, BC (two 30-40 story developments, 350 units each)

compare to Gresham - two new development totalling 700 units next to light rail, 6 stories or so woodframe

Context matters.

Firstly, more than half the population of metro Vancouver are a visible minority and of that the vast majority are of Asian descent. It would not surprise me in the slightest if more than a few of the people that work in the marketing department at Concord Pacific were non native English speakers.

Secondly, Surrey is the largest and fastest growing suburb in metro Vancouver with aspirations of a true downtown core that will serve as the business centre for all the suburbs south of the Fraser. Gresham doesn't seem to be nearly as ambitous.

Eh? Four out of Atlanta's five tallest towers are PoMo. It's probably the most Postmodern skyline in the US.

Portman was a ‘Neo-futurist’, basically the opposite of postmodernism

You won’t see anything deliberately anachronistic in his work

postmodern (anachronistic, cheesy columns at top 'evoking' classical architecture)

John Portman (looks like architecture from blade runner):

Of those 5, only the SunTrust Plaza tower is a John Portman though, and certainly falls under the umbrella of Postmodernism. The other 3 have a lot of historical reference meanwhile, though a much more toned down take on it (no over-the-top neon coloured columns, for example).

(This isn't a bad thing btw. I think Atlanta has a very handsome skyline, and PoMo has seen a big rise in appreciation as well as revival in recent years)

The Atlanta skyline is dominated by post-modern towers in a way few other big US skylines are.

depends on what you mean by postmodern

yes, they are architecturally after modernism

no, the buildings don't look like the ATT building or PPG place in pittsburgh.

eg no columns, turrets, castles, chateau roofs, etc

very little of this in Atlanta:

or this

or this

atlanta's 1980s and 1990s scrapers are more neo-futurist (thanks to portman)

Fortunately they have tall buildings - it will be easy to convert the entrances to boat docks at a later date

over 20 highrises are to be added to the Lougheed/Burquitlam area, so the skyline will be quite impressive in a few years. There is one proposal for an 82 storey that will be the tallest in the region which will dominate this area.

Lougheed - Burquitlam most of whats in this pic are under 30 storeys, but a 4 tower development is going up currently that will have a 53 storey, as well as a possible 46 storey in a secon development.
