To the north of the Headlands are Mt. Tamalpais and Muir Woods.

Muir Beach, a small community up on the bluffs.
The GGNRA stretches all the way north to Bolinas (in the distance) and beyond.

Some vessel traffic…

And the next big craze in intersection design: the roundabout.

Finishing with some shots of the City…
A sandwich of the Avenues: the Sunset (top), Golden Gate Park, and the Richmond (bottom)

Sacramento Amtrak
2012.09.25

I had a one-day “business trip” up in the Tahoe area, which meant a ride on Amtrak California’s Capitol Corridor up to Sacramento. Not really part of the “Bay Area” per se, but there is a not-insubstantial number of Sacramento area residents who commute into the Bay Area, many of whom use the Capitol Corridor.

5:00 am, Powell BART

Amtrak has no actual station in San Francisco city limits… Passengers need to take a Thruway Bus to catch the train at Emeryville Station across the Bay. If you’re wondering, I was one of only two passengers on the ride over to Emeryville.

My train cruising into the station…

Arrival at Sacramento:

Morning commuters waiting for a Bay Area-bound train.
Most Capitol Corridor trains operate between Oakland (Jack London Square) and Sacramento, but some start or end as far south as San Jose (Diridon) and as far north as Sparks, NV (via Auburn, Truckee, and Reno).

North of the station are the former Southern Pacific railyards, slated for a large redevelopment with up to 12,000 housing units, 2.4 million SF of office, and 1.9 million SF of other commercial.

Giants Victory Parade
2012.10.31

Perhaps no day more fitting than Halloween… I dropped my work and stepped out of the office for a bit to relish the moment. Enjoy.

Sweeney Ridge
2012.09.22

Jumping back in time again, here’s the sequel to my other Pacifica thread, a hike through Sweeney Ridge… As usual, we start off with some transit shots at the much maligned Millbrae “Intermodal” Station.
