Cool AUSTIN | The Independent | 690 FEET | 58 FLOORS | Complete

I didn't see a thread for this project yet. Does anyone know what's going on with it right now? Is the control center close to being decommissioned and shut down yet?

Site plan showing the existing conditions of the site.

The address is listed as 301 West Avenue. This is Block 24.

Since this project has its own thread now, here's the original and only (as far as I know) rendering (pre-recession, of course.):

Now we got two pictures of the one and only rendering.

I truly hope that Constructive Ventures builds Austin's most iconic buildings on this site...in both design and height!

I really love 360. I mean of all the new buildings we have, I'd say it's my favorite. The design is really good from top to bottom. The lighting is one of the best. It looks great from all angles. I haven't been looking forward to the view of it going away from the south, southwest and northwest with everything happening in that area. Whatever is built at the ECC site, I hope it's worth it. I'm hoping for something taller than what we've seen so far and with a really great design. Even something that could become our new signature tower.

AUSTIN | 53rd & West Mixed Use Tower | 50 FLOORS

http://www.statesman.com/news/busine...-second/ngx4Q/

American-Statesman Staff

An ambitious high-rise tower that is destined to become the city’s second-tallest building is on the horizon for downtown Austin, the developers told the American-Statesman.

The building, which could soar 50 stories and possibly higher, is planned for a 1.7-acre site at Third Street and West Avenue, just east of the former Seaholm Power Plant that is undergoing a major transformation. The new tower is expected to have 400 condominium units, up to 120,000 square feet of office space and 15,000 square feet of shops and restaurants, said the developers, Perry Lorenz and Larry Warshaw with Austin-based Constructive Ventures.
Construction is due to start in the fourth quarter of 2015, and will take 2 1/2 years to build. Construction costs are likely to top $200 million. Constructive Ventures’ partner in the project is Austin-based developer Aspen Heights, which is about to break ground on an apartment high-rise at Eighth and Nueces streets...

Kevin, can you change the thread headline to '3rd' not '53rd'?

Also feel free to delete if this was already a known item.

The article describes the tower as "Austin's second tallest..." However, that may be incorrect. At 50 stories it would be the second tallest by number of floors. But, a 50-story tower "could" easily rise higher than the Austonian in true height.

The article did mention the tower would be "50 stories and possibly higher."

“We want the building to have a lively presence on the skyline,” Brett Rhode said (Rhodeartners Architects). “This will not be another generic tower.”

Looks like this is it: What do you experts think?

ftp://ftp.ci.austin.tx.us/ATD_AULCC/...venue_DATA.xls

ftp://ftp.ci.austin.tx.us/ATD_AULCC/...enue_PLANS.pdf

From the excel:
"The Block 24 project will include the demolition of the existing structure and the construction of a residential tower with ground floor retail and underground parking garage. Great Streets will be used for the streetscape on West Avenue and West 3rd Street between West Avenue and Shoal Creek will be completly reconstructed."

Yes, Block 24 is it. The rendering up top shows the site. That rendering wasn't really anything more than a placeholder for the area's redevelopment.

Block 23 as you quoted earlier is actually the office tower that is planned at GreenWater. Holy cow that area is going to be booming in the next 5 years.

Here is a map from the Green Water Development marketing materials from 2010. Things have changed slightly since then (the footprints of the GW buildings, for example, are no longer curved) but the map is mostly correct with regard to existing buildings. I'm posting it because it shows the AECC site as well. The Green Water buildings are the blue areas, and the green dotted line outlines the "Second Street District".

That last rendering shows the parking lot bounded by 3rd, 4th, San Antonio and Guadalupe titled "AMoA". Are there plans to develop that godforsaken parking lot (into a museum)?? Everytime I pass by that lot I cringe...

That block was sold to Travis county. The current preliminary plan for the site is mixed-use development including a new county courthouse
