Mcclain (kind of)

Someone on the forum stated that "Constellation" was fully funded as of Spring 2017.

I'd remove Mcclain from this list altogether. Even if the project is not dead, when will see the first tractor?

I'm also disappointed with the progress of the CityCentre development, which became a real eyesore.

Progress on City Centre is picking up now. The AC hotel is scheduled for completion October 2018. Still to come the parking deck and food hall which are in bid phase I believe.

Crunkelton to this point has only ever done small projects or been in charge of leasing retail at these developments. Triad did build the awful office building at Twickenham though...Crunkelton seems to have pretty decent style so I am holding off judgement until we get a rendering.

The lack of great architecture is due to the city not demanding it. There should be an architecture review committee for projects like these. I've heard these are illegal in Alabama, but Birmingham somehow has one that is fairly strict.
An architecture review committee would be a step in the right direction.

The "fully funded" comment comes from the fact that McLain has a development partner based in Chicago - in fact if you look on the Madison County's Tax Assessor's website, the company in Chicago is listed as the owner of the land, so it appears that McLain is primarily in charge of the leasing.

Speaking of leasing and construction activity, of all the major projects in the Huntsville area, Mid City Huntsville seems to be making the most progress. Construction on Top Golf is ahead of schedule and should open before the end of the year. In addition, High Point Climbing has been announced and should come along soon. At the same time there is a lot of grading and site work going on.

By contrast, City Centre started earlier and has not progressed that far. No new tenants have been announced for Constellation. In Town Madison, a residential neighborhood is under way, but there have been no announcements of any retail or office, but a hotel has been announced for the western end near Wall Triana.

The new shopping center across the street from the Whole Foods shopping center and will include a Chuy's and Ulta cosmetics store is making good progress (RCP is the owner/developer).

Almost all of the large scale developments in the HSV area have had out of town money behind them - this started when the founders of Kinko's Copies built Bridge Street and continued with all of the developments of RCP - whose owner resides just north of San Francisco. It appears that the locals are almost jinxed when you look at how long some of these projects have languished while those projects developed by out of towners have succeeded.

Char Restaurant, a Southern-style steakhouse, will be a tenant at the Merchant's Square Development on Bob Wallace Avenue

Madison getting another Publix

City of Madison approves deal to bring Publix to the old Kroger site on Hughes Road

The old Kroger will be demolished by the end of September, and the new Publix store will be open for business by November 2018.

As a part of the deal, the developer will pay for widening Browns Ferry Road all the way to Plaza Boulevard.

Stars and Strikes is opening September 15 at 3 p.m

Unlike crawling CityCentre and stalled (dead?) Constellation, MidCity and beyond continues to deliver.

The location is 930 Old Monrovia Road in the Madison Plaza shopping center.

In just a year or two, Huntsville is going to be a prime destination for kid-friendly entertainment.

Toyota to make 'exciting announcement' at Huntsville manufacturing plant

LINK
Paul Gattis
AL.com
09/25/2017

Quote:
Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Huntsville will make an "exciting announcement" on Tuesday at the Rocket City Plant.

Details of the announcement were not immediately available. The announcement is believed to deal with the Toyota Huntsville plant, and not the announced $1.6 billion Toyota-Mazda plant that at least 11 states are jockeying for.

Toyota officials on Monday declined to provide additional information about the announcement.

Still, given the guest list, it would indicate the announcement would carry some significance.

you never know unless you try

The city of Huntsville is seeking to bring Amazon's new headquarters to north Alabama.
Kelly Schrimsher, the city's director of communications, confirmed to AL.com on Thursday that Huntsville will be submitting a proposal to land the megadeal that's expected to produce up to 50,000 jobs.
Schrimsher said city officials would not comment further on the proposal, which she said is standard operating procedure for the city on any such proposal project.
Huntsville will become the second Alabama city to jump into the Amazon sweepstakes. Birmingham announced last month that it would also submit a proposal.

We can keep dreaming but amazon clearly states is prefers
"Metro areas with more than one million people".
Birmingham has a way better shot than us.
