University City, MO (inner suburban St. Louis)

These are photos from this autumn while out walking my dog in University City where I live..sort of a photo dump. "U-City" is an inner ring suburb that first developed when urban expansion jumped the St. Louis city limits into the county just west of Forest Park between 1900-1910. Some neighborhoods look like an extension of the city, while others have a bit of a different vibe, with slightly different pre/post war architecture and brick than St. Louis City. There are also a few photos of the Clayton business district, which is an independent municipality immediately adjacent to University City. All of these photos were taken in suburban St. Louis County, and not St. Louis City.

Nice, I have to say I was quite impressed with U. City. My wife is originally from St Louis metro and her family still have friends in both U City and Clayton. I would certainly live in either city.

thanks! both u-city and clayton sort of have their own thing going on, even though both plug into the city and each other seamlessly. u-city is a bit of an urban college town - at least in part - thanks to washington university with a decent sized urban business district while clayton has a huge office oriented cbd that the surrounding neigborhoods, including some of university city, plug into. both have large swaths of solid, well kept streetcar suburbia.

Will be interesting to see the return of the streetcars, at least in small part. Metrolink into each is certainly pleasant enough. Lovely shots. (Also love the pup. Reminds me a great deal of one I know.)

admittedly, im not a fan of throwback trolleys. i would have preferred to have seen something like a low floor skoda that went a lot further west on delmar, and tied the western end of the pre-war urban fabric into forest park.

It's okay. The streetcar project is nothing if not controversial. I'd really like to see one heading north and south on Grand, or Jefferson, or Broadway, or some combination. One of these days maybe we'll get some of what we want. Maybe. ;-)

kind of reminds me of LA where people are always abandoning comestibles by luxury/supercars not a soul in sight:

a preview of an LA thread that i may or may not get around to.
