Drove Over the South Street bridge today and it looks like they've begun excavating/drilling for the tower.

Yep. Excavation is certainly under way. Fencing/barriers and work in progress signs are up.

Yeah...what are they going to do with that massive lot unless and until phase 2 and phase 3 are built? And don't say "surface lot."

A parcel of land who's elevation does not greatly exceed the median for the are which will largely be used for the short term storage of cars... How's that?

This is CHOP in the 21st century--is there any doubt that phase 2 and phase 3 will be built (and probably sooner rather than later)? Short of a sudden return to the Dark Ages in technology and medical science, I would be very surprised if the subsequent phases don't come to fruition fairly quickly.

Phase one will include the 23 floor, 375 foot tower and the podium for the second tower as well as a surface parking lot and extension of the river trail. Phase two will include a 10 story tower. Phase three will include a parking podium and 15 story tower to be built on surface lot. Phase four will include the final 15 story tower.

Probably a question that gets asked in every thread, but when does the site formally move a building from "proposed" to "under construction"?

I can't tell, but is there some "barrier" between the building and the townhomes behind it? From the rendering, it looks like its walled off from the community...nevermind, its the schukyll ave

Update from Building Philly

Looks like they're excavating/shoring, but I see no foundation or caisson installation yet.
