Other than the SLS and W projects (awaited with great impatience), which will help to fill in the skyline toward the south, I'm most excited by this and One Riverside. In conjunction with FMC, they will present an impressive image as one approaches Center City from the airport via the Schuylkill.

Unusual to see steel with that grey color....I'm assuming that's fireproofing, right?

Perhaps. It's much more common in Europe. Couldn't tell you why though.

Perhaps because it's 7 feet away from a rail line that carries tank cars full of oil by it 7X a day?

The finish alone wouldn't be sufficient for fireproofing.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempering_(metallurgy)

From a quick glance at the above website I'm thinking this is a weaker more brittle steal but they are using more of it to compensate? Apparently having steel too-tempered, too-quenched, or too-anything is not good. So this light grey steel is just not too tempered or too brittle?

Also, remember Pelli is a master of adding texture into his facades. Google image search his portfolio because his other Philly buildings, GSK & Cira, are ironically not good examples of his highly elaborate lines created by the steel structure and decorative facade elements. But looking at the concept artwork on page 1 you can see the interest that is added to the facade. Vietcombank Tower is a good example, and CITC's doppelgänger.

The steel is galvanized which makes it that color. It prevents corrosion.

So why does it seem more common in Europe than US. Seems like almost all steel in US is not galvanized and in Europe it is. Maybe just coincidence what I've happened to see...?
