Why is some of the podium a steel structure? Pretty interesting.

It looks like tube steel. Perhaps to support some type of facade for that area?

My guess is it might have something to do with the ground level floors being retail, and large panes of glass being used on the exterior.

Similar to what will happen with Shangrila and it's swimming pool atrium.

Dead Center of the big mass. However looks like a jumbled mess right now, might have to wait for the tower to start rising before you actually see it. And also remember this one is not steel frame, so that will also make the elevator core less visible than otherwise.
