Cool FRANKFURT: Wolkenkratzerfestival 2007 (Skyscraper Festival)

The Wolkenkratzerfestival (skyscraper festival) took place this weekend for the fourth time (after 1996, 1998 and 2001). Hundred thousands of visitors visited it and of course I was one of them and took tons of photos. But it'll be a while until I post them, so for now the photos from the official website have to do.

All of these photos are from the official Wolkenkratzerfestival site : http://www.wolkenkratzerfestival.de

Preparations

Dutch experts build the skyline out of sand

Rescue demonstration of a window cleaner who's trapped in his platform

Hot air balloons over the skyline

Are you kidding me? You have a skyscraper festival!!!! That is so far past amazing that im in awe. I can't believe Ive never heard of this before. And all of those activities looked like so much fun. Great stuff. Hope I can go one day. No better yet, hope the idea catches on and there are more festivals around the world. Maybe in this city too.

WOW! A skyscraper festival...pretty cool FRANKFORT.
You gotta love those Germans.

I think Chicago, the birthplace of the skyscraper, should have a festival like this. It would be a perfect fit.

Yeah that is awesome. Definitely a city that loves its skyscrapers and willing to have fun with them.

Wow. I used to live in Frankfurt back in the 80's (1985-1988). What a difference in the skyline! The only recognizable tall building back then was the Deutshe Bundesbank building.

I have got to get back there. I loved living in Frankfurt and I miss it very much (ohhhh the memories of weekend night bier drinking and bratwurst eating in Sachsenhausen).

That is the best city-festival I have been too ( 1996 , 2001) . But saddly it is only all few years.
Another huge festival in Germany is the annual the Hamburg ports-bithday or hbour birthday in May every year , stretching over 3 days with more than 1 million visitors the largest of this kind in the world , in Germanys largest port ( world # 8) and Germanys second city , with tons f things to do.

Looks like this event took place in early May. Any sign that they will have another festival this year again in May? If so, I may plan early this time!

the skyscraperfestival will only take place in a few years.
The Hamburg port festival is every year in May . www.hafengeburtstag.de has also an english version. I have no knowledge of another city festival in this size this May.
