Koln, Germany

Northern European Trip Part III

This city is famous for the worlds tallest church.

Köln was heavily bombed in the war.

Great pics.

I have always thought that Cologne was easily the most underrated Germanic city. It's a very lively city (Rhinelanders are the most festive and laid-back Germans), great museums, Roman history, fantastic churches (the cathedral is just the start) and close to a ton of fun stuff.

I see you were over in Deutz, across the river. What were you doing over there? Just exploring? I have an aunt who lives a few miles to the north, in a city called Leverkusen.

We were in Deutz, because we missed the last climb up the cathedral, and the info booth told us to go to Koln's newest skyscraper (one of the tallest in the city ) at around 30 stories, and go up to the observatory there. But that also was closed .

nice to see a bit of koln and the big iconic church. i would love to have seen the views from above, but you just cant always time everything perfectly well in your travels, i am very sympathetic to that as i am sure we all are.

Sorry, but flickr is annoying now, and it is so hard to get the image address in different sizes.

Tallest church is in Germany, but not in Köln. It's in Ulm and is 530 ft tall: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulm_Minster

Great pics! I visited Köln once. Nice like all big German cities.

Nice city and photos! Yes, the church in Ulm is the world's tallest, not the one in Köln.

These threads about even medium sized European cities just remind me of how lame America is
