FYI concrete pour starts late tonight if it hasn't already been mentioned here. They sent an email to Rittenhouse neighbors notifying us of road closures.

"This Saturday (1/18) The Laurel will be pouring its foundation and as a result there will be temporary street closures. We are anticipating approximately 650 concrete trucks arriving to our site between 1AM and 5PM."

Email yesterday from the Laurel:

Important update for this weekend

To: The Laurel <The.Laurel@southernland.com>

READY…SET…GO…It’s foundation time at The Laurel and it’s happening this weekend!
If you’re planning to be in our area, please note the street closure starting late Friday evening and all day Saturday. We are expecting 650 trucks of concrete to be poured during this time, literally paving the way for The Laurel to start taking shape.

If you have not visited our sales gallery yet please inquire for your private presentation now!

Warmly,

The Laurel Sales Team

I had just come here to post about this. A post in the Center City Residents' Association facebook group says the pour will begin at approx. 2am tonight.

Great weather for the concrete, not so great for those doing the work, but the overtime pay helps.

Not so great for concrete, either. That's why some workers had to come back late last night after it had cured a bit to put curing blankets on top of the concrete, to maintain the necessary minimum warmth for a few days of further curing. But as you indicated, that means even more overtime!

nothing like a nice down (feather) comforter to keep the new concrete warm and toasty-------but not too warm. Actually I'd bet its made with some synthetic material. These 'blankets' are also used on the I-95 reconstruction.

Is it me or is the core on the Laurel a huge amount of square footage comparative to the whole floorspace?

Check the renders and images from the packet. Be the lot facing Walnut St is more narrow in width, the core seems to stretch out in length. That's the only explanation I can think of.

Visited the sales office recently and learned that the retail portion facing Sansom will now be three floors instead of two to accommodate Equinox. The retail entrance on Walnut will be for Equinox and the actual gym will take up floors two and three of the rear portion. At least some of the retail space on 20th/Sansom will be a restaurant, but they have not determined which one yet.

The lighting used to be very nice. Now it looks like the LEDs from a liquor store

Any information yet? Such as verticle construction starting soon, or new retailers announced etc?

The foundation slab has been poured and the rebar for the core and columns are popping up from their place. They're literally about to go vertical, core forms are already at the site
