High Line Park - should they get rid of the electric lines? It would make the park more "park-like" and pretty but on the flipside, would take away the industrial aspect of it that makes it unique.

It really depends on the overall vibe they're going for. Based on the initial renderings, they should stay as they are going to keep the industrialized character of the overall path.

You also don't have to go too far to find an example of this - they left the beams on the Manayunk Bridge during conversion to a trail and it looks great!

Nah, that's where they'll be putting the billboards.

Are you referencing the old structure that held the overhead wires for the railroad?

If so, it's worth noting that Phase 1 of the High Line development was never under wires. The section in the distance was under wires, but I have not heard much about development of that area in subsequent phases.

I would like to think that the wires would be removed and the iron structures re-purposed, where appropriate, keeping the aesthetic.

Most of the wire has already been stolen. It was de-energized following the completion of the new substation near Fairmount a few years ago. Until that happened they actually still carried the power for the viaduct over from the old Callowhill substation.

Drove by what I'm pretty sure is Blatstein's site on Columbus Blvd today, bunch of heavy equipment and what looked like preliminary work. Anyone have any insight into what's going on? Is the plan still for shopping center, townhouses, parking, parking and more parking?

Nice, nice... it's not the ideal development but it's certainly better than what's there now. The townhomes will be nice on the water. This is better than an empty lot. There is just a serious lack of public transit in this area unfortunately. If the waterfront continues to build up in the future, these shopping centers will be easy to develop into something more urban.

Here is the site plan for this project:

Earlier today, I walked past the opera house on Broad and Poplar to find a huge dumpster at the southwest corner of the intersection and the sidewalk blocked off. Let's hope that this means that Blumfield's next project is about to get off the ground!
