I agree with some of what mr. john is saying, namely that the high ISO performance is nothing special, from what I've seen maybe 1.5 stops better than the D90. I'm certainly not rushing out to replace my D90 with the D7000.

However, in LSyd's case, it makes total sense to buy a D7000 because his D90 is broken. If his D90 was still mint, I'd have recommended against it. At the moment, the D7000 is the best value semi-pro camera Nikon has on offer.

I guess my major beef is that the performance of the D7000 doesn't come close to a pro level camera, have you seen the threads posted by okayou and Sabotai? both using full frame cameras...I could only dream of matching that kind of quality with a D7000 . Again the D7000 is a good solid well priced camera but not in the same league as a full frame camera like the 600 and 800

i may have gone for the d600 and a new lens set if i hadn't bought a new car this year. i played with the 600 and 7000 in the store and while i loved the 600, i also loved the 7000 and found it acceptable.

it's the price for a new lens set that puts the brakes on the d600; it was kind of like getting the HD TV, why not get a Blu-Ray player too, and HD cable.

maybe when the next upgrade time comes around in 2015/2016 a new lens set will be cheaper or needed as the current lenses die off.

it looks like the 7000 is shipping surface mail; if that's the case, i'll probably rent a 600 in a few weeks while i'm back in the states.
