No, I'm talking about this:

It's far more done than in that pic. Anyone know anything about this? Sorry for the derail but we'll keep it short. This building is just sitting there, 90% finished but no one working on it. For months now. The reason it looks so bad is when you drive by it you can just tell it is just about done, completely topped out, but completely stalled. Never seen anything like a project that completely stalled 90% of the way to the finish line.

^ In an effort to put an end to this thread's derailment, it turns out that project is this one, and it appears to be in foreclosure.

Since it's practically completed, though, I'm guessing that eventually it will be bought out and completed by somebody else.

Here's a semi-recent construction pic from Flickr--I'm guessing this is the project, right?

Yeah that's it! Awesome urb thanks for the info.

Back on track to Rush though. It appears they are building at a pretty rapid pace now and things are moving along quite nicely. Good to see.

OK getting back to Rush... Again.

This is another useless park created just south of the outpatient ambulatory building. In my mind, a perfect place for a small strip of retail (stand alone Dunkin Donuts, or maybe a Chipotle or Jimmy John's combo). Anything would have been better on this plot of land for advancing a more community friendly area than a dead park on the opposite end of the Rush campus. Who is going to go a block down just to sit at a park for a 10 minutes just to walk back to work! Absolutely useless, but I guess this goes to show that IMD land will always be that, and they would rather have a park than useful retail

Ok getting my frustrations out on that last post, I do have to admit I am liking the progress on the outpatient building, and my comment on the Chicago developments thread about this building not having a green roof have been put to rest. Here it is, some green on the roof!!

Agreed JMT. Open space is highly overrated as a necessity for a nice urban neighborhood - in fact, it's often detrimental, especially as on the Near West Side when it basically serves as a congregation spot for vagrants thereby making the whole area even less attractive for pedestrians. Open space is great for suburban office campus environments, and it's also nice for large parks in reasonable proximity, but bustling mixed-use districts should at most have some plazas that aren't so large as to single-handedly deaden the streets in off hours. Probably half of the "planned open space" around IMD should be developed for various uses.

Thanks sentinel, getting pictures while driving on Ashland is no easy task, that road is very "choppy" right now due to construction.

June 15th

I believe it is right on schedule, even at their present pace, it is still planned to open in spring of 2012. There is a lot of internal fittings and structures that are going to take a while to complete. So even if it looks completed in a year and a half or so, its still going to need a lot of work before the doors are opened.

I grabbed this from my roofdeck at lake and jefferson… I will try to grab the same shot every week or so to document progress.
