I've got a soft spot in my heart for lil' P. It's a fantastic-looking city.

Congrats on the move, Photolith. I can't wait to see what you do with the eastern seaboard.

I hope it will be epic. My photography doesnt thrive in Texas, too much new shit and not enough old dense environments; plus too much urban renewal took place during the mid 20th century for my tastes.

solid, thorough, AND diverse. homerun all the way lith, this one's at the top of your output. plus for all the smaller town exploring you seem to enjoy, pennsylvania (and all of appalachia and the eastern states, really) has an unlimited supply for exploration. great choice if/when you make the move. i love pittsburgh FOREVAH.

Ive got my trip planned out to drive up to Pgh in a couple weeks.

mm by photolitherland, on Flickr

It will be most epic. I plan on visiting Nacogdoches, TX, where I went to school for a year. Then over to Natchitoches, LA which is the oldest town in LA. Then Jackson, MS, Tuscaloosa, AL, Birmingham, AL, Chattanooga, TN, Knoxville, TN, Great Smoky Mountains NP, then the rest of the trip will be traveling up to Pgh through the mountains. Ive always wanted to visit Great Smoky Mountains my whole life. This will be the most amazing road trip Ive ever taken. I figure Ill take about a week to get up there.

This looks like a really great plan, dude. Just keep a very close eye on the weather forecasts, as much of your journey from the Smokies through to Pittsburgh is pretty hilly/mountainous terrain and could be quite nasty if a cold storm comes on through...

Unusually good photographs of an unusually good city.

Every time I see the empty rowhouses and commercial buildings I think of how much I want to fix them up. It's great there's still a quality city with solid opportunities to build sweat equity and revitalize a community. The dream of the '90s is alive...in Pittsburgh.

PhotoLith, where is that 7th photo (1st black and white) taken? Trolley tracks still in tact? Wow!!

Way to capture a lot of the hidden gems of my hometown.

Kind of near there, I believe. I believe it was actually in the Deutschtown neighborhood, but I don't remember the street.

Set aside extra time for Birmingham. It's absolutely your kind of town, photography-wise.

My next East Coast multi-stop trip will include another visit to Pittsburgh. These photos are superb!

Good thread, that place really always delivers, I noticed. The urban fabric there looks solid, so does the downtown skyline.
Love the old highrises, too.

awesome work. it's been too long since your last thread.

definitely get into the smokies park away from the interstate for great views. growing up in the area i didn't realize how beautiful the scenery was until after i'd moved to texas.

Smokey Mountain National Park is so amazing and beautiful, used to go there every other summer or so on family vacations.

I hope when Im there it snows or something. Otherwise it will be kinda boring for photos with all the trees without their leaves.

Just wait until April when everything is bursting green and blooming and every vitamin D deficient Pittsburger is out strolling the parks and streets.

Feb and March are my least favorite months here.

I've enjoyed March in Pittsburgh ... usually has been quite pleasant.
