Honey, if you're gay you know as well as I do that men have their own various spots.

Question for all: I was speaking to a local friend the other day who I've met since moving down here and he was telling me about a conceptual plan for a Major League Soccer stadium that would be built IN THE MIDDLE OF Lady Bird Lake downtown, with a stop on an extended metro rail that would land directly on said island stadium. I couldn't find information on it online.. Has anyone else seen/heard anything about such a plan and what do you guys think about such a concept? I know the lake is a pristine gem for the city but I also think such a structure would be a unique an instantly famous icon for the city, especially if the design is also superb.

Thoughts? Opinions? Links? Haha

Interesting name, "The G" ... that must be a nice spot.
It was briefly mentioned about a year ago. The address is 1715 Gaudalupe. There used to be a fast food restaurant there. It was either a Sonic or an Arby's...I can't remember which.

UT student housing, not condos, coming to 17 & Guadalupe

The above article was wrong in that it indicated the project was opening in Ausgust 2013. It's actually opening August 2014.

Here's their website:

Check out the gap the Colorado Tower will fill. Green Water (4 towers) and the Seaholm Residences will just re-enforce what's already there. 99 Trinity Tower and Waller Park Place (3 towers) will show up here.

Amazing picture. I also like the fact that it shows The Shore Condos in such detail. I think it is such a well designed building, especially the arrangement of the balconies. Each one is really private.

The Fairmont will show up in that photo, too, but you have to scroll it to the right a bit to see its lot past where the Hotel Van Zandt will rise.

Anyone know what's going on at the old SoCo at the Lake Apartments? They are razing the buildings and I remember hearing something about midrise condos going there. They are at 300 East Riverside.

^^There was an article in the Austin Business Journal about this back in August. I read it back then and then had forgotten about it until now.

Plan for mid-rise apartments on Riverside won't require public input

The project by CWS Capital Partners LLC, one of Austin’s most active apartment developers, was approved in 2008, according to Austin Senior Planner Michael Simmons-Smith. The tower, which will be 79 feet high, will have 247 units on the 3.9-acre site.

“The property was approved for PUD zoning in 2008, and the site plan is currently under review by city staff,” Simmons-Smith said.

The property is adjacent to the public boardwalk, which is under construction on the south side of Lady Bird Lake. As part of the PUD approval, CWS Capital Partners agreed to 1.5 acres of its property as parkland.

This is the project that spawned Save Town Lake. (Or the original, taller version of this project spawned STL). It's hard to believe the boardwalk got approved and built before they even started site work on this project.

If I remember right, the developers were going to pay for part of the boardwalk as part of the original project. They saved money by waiting.

In order to encourage redevelopment, the area was rezoned as part of Austin’s Central Business District in 2004. Once a sleepy residential street, the area has a growing nightlife scene as old bungalows have been turned into bars and cocktail lounges.

The 8-story, 326-unit Millennium Rainey Street, will feature a modern, crisp combination of primarily brick with Texas limestone and zinc panel accents. Amenities include an infinity edge pool on the 7th floor, a clubroom, demonstration kitchen, and fitness room overlooking the pool deck. A conference room off on the ground floor will also be available for resident’s use. A ground floor retail component is included, providing close shopping and eatery options for residents. With close access to Colorado River, various parks and bike trails, downtown Austin and public transportation this up and coming neighborhood will appeal to young professionals and students seeking an urban living with access to a 24/7 lifestyle in downtown Austin. The project is striving for LEED H Silver Certification. Estimated construction completion is 4th quarter of 2015.
