Recently there are a lot of threads and photos showing recession-feel Canadian towns and neighborhoods, plus with Britain-feel grey cloudy sky adding even gloomier mood.

I was thinking about Wallaceburg for some reason the other day and realized I had posted in this thread years back. Does anyone have any newer pictures? My sister still lives there and my parents live in a rural area near there. The last time I was there was probably nearly 2 years ago but I didn't take the time to drive around and check it out.

There are newer suburban areas of Wallaceburg too, its not like the whole place is a dump. The Southside Square gets a bad rap but are those buildings even there anymore?

I know in this place, I used to know someone who lived in the upstairs and this was the late 90's and then it was in horrible shape. Holes in the walls, ripped up carpet, broken windows, etc. My dad used to get his hair cut at Leo's and worked at a number of factories in the town. My plan was to become a mold maker and work in one of the many Tool and Die places. I worked at M2M molds for a bit but I kind of hated it so eventually quit and tried doing online stuff which was for the best as most of not all of those factories are gone now. The Kent Tavern was the towns stripper joint. I doubt its still going anymore. The Southside Square used to be a popular place to hangout for young troublemakers but I somehow doubt it is now. Tom and Al's is still around. My parents buy appliances there. The next time I am Wallaceburg I will definitely try to take some pics. It will probably by next summer though.

Has Wallaceburg perked up since 2007?

It is amazing how frequently Rim Whoreton's builds a new outlet right across the street and then closes the old one. There are at least 5 locations in London that are similar. They toss away the old buildings much like their inconsiderate customers toss their empty triple-triples out of their pickup truck windows.

Also since it has been so long since I went through a Rim Whoreton's Drive thru, has it become the law that you must drive a pickup truck to be served?

That row of buildings is demolished, the Kent Tavern is demolished, and some of the other buildings are demolished too. Now they are vacant lots with cement blocks and overgrown grass. Quite depressing.

Looks like the Steinhoff mansion (below) is next to be demolished. I noticed the windows were boarded up and it had fallen into even worse condition last time I drove by.

Wow, I still remember these photos. Whenever I see Flar post and think about his photos, I always think of that photo of the kid on the bike for some reason. That photo always stuck out to me. It's good to see documentation of these kind of places and the people living there and what they are going through.
