Antenna's don't count if they were not part of the building's design. For instance, with 1 WTC the way the built the actual structure of the building was designed to support the spire. In some cases an antenna was simply mounted on top and thus not counted.
Not to continue to stir this never ending argument further, but using your definition, the original 1 WTC was also designed to support an antenna, although it's distinctive antenna was not added until later (and thus never counted towards the official height). Counting the spi-tenna on 1 WTC is kinda BS, and was obviously influenced by money and the desire to call the building 1,776' (even though it only reaches that mark from an arbitrary point on the un-level ground on which it sits).

Back on topic, does anyone know why that one crane has that white bit at the end of the boom? What is that and what purpose does it serve? I haven't seen it on any other cranes.

Nothing in this post makes any sense. The spire was planned from the get-go, the agency that makes such silly rankings is a nonprofit that no one cares about (who exactly is paying off a skyscraper height nonprofit? - sounds like Obama birther stuff), and ground tends to be un-level with most building sites.

People will find a conspiracy with everything. Geez.

The tallest Lego model in the U.S.

Quote:
Just in time for the Independence Day weekend, Legoland is showing off an extensive remodel of its New York miniland, dominated by a towering replica of Manhattan’s One World Trade Center.

At 26 feet tall and more than 250,000 Lego bricks, the skyscraper is the tallest Lego model in the U.S. (A 60-foot-tall replica of the 160-story Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai is awaiting the opening of Legoland Dubai this October.) It alone took eight master model builders more than 1,200 hours to build the trade center replica.

Unveiled on Thursday, the tower is part of a whole new section of the miniland devoted to replicating the feel and look of the memorial in lower Manhattan created to honor the thousands killed in the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The memorial’s twin reflecting pools, the grove of memorial trees, World Trade Center Transportation Hub and even the museum building are all represented in the renovated miniland.

Legoland’s master builders even created a tower viewer fashioned from Lego bricks that allows individuals to get a birds-eye view of the Manhattan tableau from atop the World Trade Center Lego tower.

It looks like the WTC Earthcam showing the unfinished base side is finally being worked on.

Those are amazing views from Staten Island. Manhattan will soon look like an island of floating skyscrapers.

ESB observatory drew more visitors – despite rival 1 WTC
CEO Anthony Malkin claims level of competition is “lower than expected”

July 28, 2016
By Konrad Putzier

Quote:
The Empire State Building’s observation deck increased its revenues in the first half of 2016, despite a challenging tourism environment and competition from One World Trade Center.

The observatory generated $53 million in revenue during the six months ending on June 30 – up from $48.8 million a year earlier – the building’s owner Empire State Realty Trust said in its quarterly earnings report. The number of visitors rose slightly to 1.843 million, from 1.787 million last year.
In an earnings call Wednesday morning, the real estate investment trust’s CEO said the competition from One World Trade Center’s new observation deck has been “lower than expected.”

“We are the first stop for tourists to view NYC,” he claimed.
A spokesperson for the Durst Organization did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the Durst Organization’s One World Trade Center opened its own observation deck in May 2015. The New York Times reported that it drew 2.3 million visitors in its first year – a million less than the 3.3 million annual visitors its operator, Legends, expected.

In the earnings call, Malkin acknowledged that the observatory is facing a challenging tourism market. The dollar’s value vis-à-vis key currencies rose over the past few months, which can hit international travel. The company said “favorable weather” helped push up attendance.

The observation deck is a major cash cow for the real estate company, accounting for almost 20 percent of its total revenues in the second quarter. Total revenues rose slightly to 165.8 million in the second quarter, from 164.8 million a year ago. Its net income fell to $24.6 million, from $26.6 million.

I know it's been asked before but are they ever going to clean the windows of this building?
