Hunters Point, San Francisco - Part III

Here you get a lot of industrial stuff, most of it in the Northern Section of the neighborhood.

pics are all taken from www.mapjack.com

The next few shot are of "3rd and Army" a famous skate spot. The name refers to the closest major intersection (Army being Cesar Chavez street, renamed from Army Street, back in the mid-90's).

The street going by that big abandoned factory thing in the background is one of the few that the Mapjack van didn't go up. I've been up there and it's pretty cool. There's some cool graffiti and tons of "toxic waste, No Trespassing" signs.

A couple Gas stations just beyond the edge of Hunters Point, in the Portola District.

Back to HP:

the end.

Those are some great shots! I took a drive through the projects a while back, never again. "Straight Outta Hunters Point" is a great documentary about this neighborhood.

Interesting indeed... being politically correct, it shows that the great city of SF still has a lot of potential

Yeah, this really has been one of SF's forgotten neighborhoods. It has literally just been connected as Muni-rail extended the T-third line through this area about a year ago. We're already starting to see a few new condo developments being built in the area and if the issue passes on the ballet in June, we can hope that the old shipyard is finally cleaned up and developed, to provide a catalyst to the rest of the area. Unfortunately, this will likely mean that more minorities will be pushed out of the city, but with the high cost of living here, I see this trend continuing.

I see the bike guy has made his way down to Hunters Point:

One of his pieces will be covered up at One Hawthorne in the coming months.

All these shots and only one guy flipping off the camera:

Wonderful.

I remeber watching a video about the PJ's there and people were hiding guns inside the green spaces between the tenements!

^I think I've seen that same video before, with people hiding guns in trees, and in a hole in the lawn between some projects.

Yeah, I have a copy of that film, it's definitely good.

Glad you all found the area interesting. I'm gonna go take some of my own pics pretty soon... There's some cool stuff down there.

Didn't SF flirt with the idea of building the 49ers a new stadium around Hunters Point?

^The current 49ers stadium is actually in Hunters Point already, in the far southern end. You can see it in the Hunters Point thread part II.

The city was thinking about rebuilding it a little farther north however, on the land of the actual Hunters Point naval shipyard, but I don't think it'll be happening. More likely choices would probably be moving it to Santa Clara (near San Jose), Brisbane (just south of the SF border), or rebuilding it in it's current location.
