I made a new future Hamilton rendering in Google Earth. There are a few developments that I still have to add, but here's what I have so far...

Red = Proposed
Green = Approved
Orange = Under Construction/Site Preparation

That angle makes the skyline look very sparse. Is it an outdated image they used for the render? Are some buildings missing?

I agree that rendering looks more like Regina than Edmonton.

Missing.

Fox

Ultima

KR

Commerce Place barely visible in this pic

Scotia Place is not really accurately visible

And really just not a good pic. Bad angle.... Dont know why they would release this with so much missing. And not add what is coming online with the Healy towers and Encore etc.

This view from the east or west would would be better also.

Edmonton has some angles where buildings hide, and things look more sparse than they do in other angles. These angles are less common in pictures though, especially widely shared ones because people are usually less inspired to take photos at these angles and people are less likely to share the final product. This is probably true for many cities actually...

In this case they selected an angle that gives a skyline shot that allows them to draw more attention to their project. Most other angles especially ones from south of DT wouldn't hace the same impact as finding one (without KR) where you can see pretty much all of Stantec. If they really wanted to play up their impact they could have gone from the North, but then you loose the river and most people including Edmontonians rarely picture the skyline from the North. They are also marketing their development, so including other new u/c or proposed buildings would both obscure their building and give extra facetime to the competition. It's a video for 'Ice District' not DT Edmonton as a whole.

Still cool to see though

Does the JW Marriott in Edmonton make the cut as the new tallest hotel in Canada? IIRC the current champion is the 58-storey hotel in Niagara Falls which I believe is also Marriott affiliated.

Here are the other projects u/c, approved, likely to proceed in the next 1-3years.

Given that it's mixed-use and that the residential condo portion is larger than the hotel portion, I'm guessing not?

I guess the mixed use nature complicates things. However, notwithstanding the NF Hilton's caginess regarding the actual building height, it does appear that this JW Marriott will be taller (198m vs 160-170m for NF).

So if nothing else the JW Marriott will likely have bragging rights for Canada's highest hotel rooms!

^ Haha, except the hotel portion is on the lower floors.

As much as I wish we were winning in some category here, it doesn't look like it. Still, 190m in Edmonton is substantial and awesome for us.

Is it just me or is Manulife completely absent from that rendering?

Shangri-La Vancouver is 201m/62 storeys.

It'll be bigger than the new Trump Vancouver though which is pretty amazing for Edmonton.

And Toronto Trump is even taller. One simply cannot count mixed-use hotels.

A couple of ladies looking at the Mirvish Ghery model at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The exhibit runs until mid March.
