The crown reach 1000' that makes it a supertall. The spire is just a bonus making the building 1100' so this is a supertall. Spires do count so stop complaining.

The WG crown is at 934' or 943' AGL. At what height does a supertall become a mega tall. SSC and SSP both list the BK and the KT as supertalls. Is that wrong? In addition they both have tall spires that count. The BK spire is a hollow 4' diameter pole at the top.

The design is also amazing. I'd go as far as to say it's the best architecture this city has seen since Walt Disney Concert Hall

Like another forum member said, it has muscle with grace! The bulkiness of its bottom culminates with a lightweight spire for elegance IMO.

Most folks tend to agree with JR Ewing, (including me). I remember accidently referring to the "Spire" as an antenna, and a couple dudes on this site exploded !

Most people? I don't see many responses on here that feel the same way about the spire as JR!

The core is at level 51-562'6'' or 52-574' now. The glass is looking great. What they are doing on the east and west sides with the accents that break up the solid glass look looks cool. This is really going to stand out in the crowd when complete.

Agreed. This is going to be a very classy, cosmopolitan looking building. I don't agree at all with JR Ewing's assessment of the design being "Southern" in quality. This is more NYC/Chicago/Toronto in terms of caliber.

Rule 1.. know the rules. The spire counts, that is a fact and here ends our conversation.
Rule 2.. Don't feed the troll(s).

PS:

In my point of view ... there's only one tower with a beautiful spire and that's the television tower in central Berlin. (but I am born in Berlin, so that doesn't count)

The Wilshire Grand Tower will look great, I really like the design.

Following your thread makes me salivate for getting our Salesforce Tower out of its huge hole in the ground! The prep work has been agonizingly slow; at least we have 181 Fremont about to shoot up now. California as a state is doing well; I look forward to another trip to LA soon.

Good points! Spires come in all shapes and sizes and they all count! The tallest in the world today the BK is counted even though its spire tapers to a 5' pole before the top. They are a part of the overall design of the building not a afterthought only for other reasons. The WG is the 1st building to give Los Angeles a point in the skyline like New York is famous for many of. That is just great!

There are new July pictures on the Wilshire Grand Center web page. One of them shows the framing of a hallway and hotel rooms.

Too bad it will all be hidden by those plain glass windows.
