NEWARK | Terminal One Redevelopment

It's about time!

Terminal One, which will replace Terminal A, will be a T-shaped, two-story structure featuring 1 million square feet and 33 gates. The new terminal will include more amenities, efficient check-in and security screening systems, and will allow for future growth as passenger volume grows and airlines' demand for space increases. It will also include a climate-controlled pedestrian bridge with moving walkways that will allow passengers to travel between the terminal and parking garage.

This is a big improvement, but I'm more excited for the PATH extension to the airport.

^No doubt, and it looks airy and modern enough up top.

But the path extension will be hugely beneficial, it'l be great to make the 1 seat ride from the wtc to EWR

There will be no one-seat ride to the airport: PATH is being extended to the airport rail station which requires a ride on the Airtrain to get to the terminals - ie, a two-seat ride.

looking forward to this place. I fly out of here 5-6 times a year to go to Florida. Terminal A is a disaster. I read that the Air Train was earmarked for demolition / replacement as its outdated. What takes its place?

NEWARK LIBERTY CELEBRATES PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE WITH CEREMONIAL GROUNDBREAKING FOR NEW STATE-OF-THE-ART TERMINAL ONE

http://www.panynj.gov/press-room/pre...adLine_id=3004

"Terminal One, in its initial year of full operation by 2022, will be able to accommodate 13.6 million passengers on three levels – with the potential for further expansion – and will feature 33 common-use gates to handle larger aircraft within one million square feet of terminal space, as well as state-of-the-art check-in, security and baggage claim areas."

Also: Port Authority board awards contract to Munich Airport International GmbH (MAI) to manage terminal, bring world-class services and amenities to the facility:

http://www.panynj.gov/press-room/pre...adLine_id=3045

The board vote authorizes MAI, beginning in 2019, to manage operations, maintenance and concessions functions in the existing Terminal A, where it also will make short-term customer enhancements until the terminal’s closure. MAI then will operate the new Terminal One as part of a 15-year agreement. MAI is a subsidiary of Flughafen München GmbH (FMG), which operates Munich International Airport.

They should not just be rebuilding one terminal. They really need a full redevelopment, including at least one new runway on the west side (parallel to the main pair.) to give the airport two parallel all weather approach streams.

Big improvements but design nothing amazing. Would hope to see airfield expansion in future but not happening anytime soon.
