It's moving about at a floor a week, so by the end of hte year it should be close to topping out.

That last photo, are there no sidewalks in this area, or did they close them off behind the fence with the rest of the site? I was assuming the former, since there doesn't even appear to be proper curbs, but I'm not sure.

That photo isn't very representative of where the building is going up. Based on Street View, the area around the building has sidewalks.

Injury at construction site

I just saw this article on the Houston Chronicle website (www.chron.com) a few minutes ago

...

A man fatally fell 11 stories down an elevator shaft at a Houston construction site Thursday, according to a spokesman for CF Jordan Construction.

Houston Police Department spokesman John Cannon confirms that there was an industrial-related death at a construction site at 2929 Weslayan near West Alabama around noon.

CF Jordan Construction is building a 35-story residential tower at the address.

HFD rescue is at the scene and it is still an active incident, according to Houston Fire Department spokesman Capt. Ruy Lozano.

"We are currently investigating the cause of the accident with OSHA, and we are trying to learn as much as we can," said Mark Gudenas, VP of communications with CF Jordan Construction. "This is a great tragedy."

Gudenas says the worker, a male, works for a sub-contracting group on site

If you look at the current street view, West Alabama did not have sidewalks along it. If you look down Las Palmas, you will see some huge, beautiful Live Oak trees. The development site for Willowick Park has put up fencing to protect and preserve these trees during construction. That fence goes along W. Alabama and even though it does not appear that sidewalks use to be there, I'm pretty certain that the new development would require sidewalks.

If you go to 2929 Weslayan, there are sidewalks on both Weslayan and West Alabama. The sidewalks end west of Weslayan. Las Palmas is quite a ways from the construction site.

PM Realty has started construction in Houston on a 40-story high-rise which is drawing criticism due to its close resemblance to Studio Gang's famed Aqua Tower in Chicago. Upon completion, in about two years, the 40-story 2929 Weslayan Houston tower could be Houston's tallest residential building.

RTKL, which has offices in Baltimore, Dallas and Chicago, designed the Weslayan building. The tower was inspired by "the flow and sophistication of an evening gown," according to the firm. The rippling effect created through cantilevered concrete balconies, which undulate as they move up the building, is similar to the technique employed by the Aqua Tower design team.
