Dangerous intersection? It's a controlled intersection, with pedestrian signals. Clear sight lines. Lighting.
It's awful for peds, beyond the basics. It's a major commuter thoroughfare -- five lines of traffic on each side. Skinny sidewalks, aggressive drivers, completely open to the elements. Can you imagine clogging that area up with hundreds of people during rush hour? Or even not rush hour? All of them trying to beat the light and beat traffic?

They're at least going to have to make it SEEM more safe if using the Domain as parking is going to work.

That's a great find, thanks. I did note that they were thinking of it more as generalized people moving than as just simply "what to do about parking," I don't want to take this thread any further off course, but for McKalla it's obviously going to take a lot of interlocking pieces to moving 20k through the area safely and quickly.

That intersection is also on the list to get improvements from the 2016 mobility bond. Those may lag the stadium opening a bit, but they're coming.

But mostly that'll just make it feel nicer, the intersection isn't unsafe today (I commute through there and frequently see people using it). I've bike through there myself, though I haven't walked.

The other thing to consider at large events like this is that there will be presence of police, volunteers, and other workers of sorts helping with pedestrian flow, auto traffic flow, etc. This sort of activity will require the normal driver to slow down and pay closer attention. Yes, it may be inconvenient at times to some folks, but people adapt. And, as Novacek mentioned, most things will not be during the worst of rush hour according to their plans.

The FAA permit for the building indicates that it will be 264' tall.

I noticed as I drove by there today that Capella has put up a big new sign with a building render (and it's updated to use the name Arena Tower).

I couldn't grab a picture due to traffic. But I expect someone visiting the MLS one will eventually tweet this one as well.

This building will REALLY stand out from that location, more so than the Domain 8-12 cluster, which sit at a lower elevation.

Yeah, that'll be great to see. Is there any chance of any sort of grid being built over these super blocks in the future? Seems to me that the area is ready for development to move south from the Domain area.

Is that the final height of the building or of a construction crane?


The current NBG zoning limits the height on that parcel to 240 feet (with maxed out bonuses).

The 264' is the building height listed on the FAA application. The FAA final building height hasn't been determined. There also hasn't been an FAA crane filing as far as I've noticed. The FAA heights sometimes differ from the released elevations. We use the approved and released elevations as the official height, so it may change once we see those.
