Yes, Erie actually built its new baseball park downtown back in 1992... and now the time is right for a number of major upgrades.

Erie Insurance campus expansion construction (MUCH further along than these show, but I liked this pics); I'll post some recent construction photos; the building is "topped out", though much of the glazing still needs to be installed (as of a few weeks ago at least... I haven't been up there in a bit).

What will the Erie Insurance building look like? (sorry, I guess it's probably in this thread, but without going through all of the pages...)

Wow, I had no idea that project was ongoing. I was looking at Erie on Google maps and their images must be quite old because its definitely not there.

Yeah, there's a bunch of renderings on here. But here's one:

It's a pretty good-sized development... about 350k sq ft, I think. Of course, wish it was MUCH taller, but Erie Insurance obviously wants more of a campus complex.

You must not have been looking in the right area... it's definitely there!

The most recent google maps view of the site is from October 2018.

Warner Theater expansion renderings

Current backside (looking west) view:

This is an architect's rendering of the expanded Warner Theatre in Erie, including a large outdoor video screen, lower left, that will be part of the theater's addition, and enclosed walkway, lower right, from the theater's second-floor lobby to a planned new rehearsal hall. This view looks northwest from the intersection of East Ninth and French streets. The $16.5 million renovation project is expected to begin as early as summer 2019.

Glad I found this thread and I had fun looking through it.

I lived in Erie for 10 months during my senior year at Strong Vincent High in 1979/1980...

My Dad and some of my family lived there considerably longer, and Erie is where my Dad met my stepmom.

Good to see a great old school building on the Lower East Side being put to productive use again.

Erie’s Wayne School sold, to get $7.5 million remodel

https://www.goerie.com/news/20190429...illion-remodel

Wayne School served as a second home for Erie School District students on the city’s lower east side for 103 years, until the district closed the building in 2017.

The Erie Center of Arts and Technology is set to spend $7.5 million to renovate Wayne, which the Erie School Board agreed to sell to ECAT for $250,000 at a special board meeting on Monday.

ECAT will offer job training to underemployed adults and arts and technology classes to at-risk Erie School District high school students, who will attend ECAT over the summer and after school. ECAT is providing the programs at no cost. ECAT expects to start construction at Wayne this coming fall if it gets the funding commitments and the closing occurs on time, ECAT said.

The awful 1970s Citzens bank building w/drive thru at West 12th & State Street in downtown Erie to be redeveloped along with two additional office buildings on the block.

The same developer has also purchased the two buildings across 12th street (General Tire building, Daka Paper warehouse/Metropolitan Club) with plans for residential and retail space.

This should really help bring some much needed density to this terribly ugly stretch of 12th Street, that was decimated in 1960s/70s urban redevelopment schemes. The added density should be a kickstarter for further residential development in the Griswold Plaza/Union Square area along Peach Street.

Ambitious plan for the Erie Zoo -- one of only 3 zoos in Pennsylvania.

Erie Zoo launches its Wild Open Spaces capital campaign for major expansion. This follows up on the recent big cats exhibit renovation.
  • The main entrance to the Zoo will be redesigned, complete with new parking areas, a welcome plaza, expanded gift shop, and renovated train station.
  • For the first time in 50 years, the footprint of the Zoo will be expanding, making room for a state-of-the-art giraffe building and yard.
  • A new outdoor classroom will provide an ideal location for programs to be held in the very place participants come to the Zoo to explore – the great outdoors.
  • A new bear exhibit will house an endangered species of bear, which will allow for the possibility of a pair to breed in the future.
  • Additional exhibits including an indoor concession area offering views into adjacent exhibits will be created in the heart of the Zoo, quite literally bringing new life to the oldest and most outdated areas of the park.
  • New species added to the Erie Zoo family will be selected based on their needs for protection and opportunities for breeding. And each new exhibit will be constructed to allow for animal training exercises and educational demonstrations.

Am I the only one that feels like there is a ton of development in Erie right now for such a small rust belt city? It really surprises me.
