You can see where there's a switch and a pocket track. Even then it looks wide to me.

I think it narrows once it gets past that point.

Good photo, great perspective. The telephoto compression does make it look wider than it is.

The telephoto compression also makes that jog coming out of VCC-Clark Station look like it would be at home on that rickety old Crazy Mouse ride at the Playland (does that still exist?).

Sadly, the Wild Mouse was removed back in 2008.

Wild Mouse at the Roller Coaster DataBase

Just when they get it working right

Madogg told us that Phyllis had started the next segment on Nov 18 and, seemingly, is continuing on good order.

I noticed that the refurb time in the Oak Street box now seems to have become routine. Little fanfare was made of the arrival at Oak Street and no trumpets blew once it left.

My point is a simple one.

What a pity that just when they get the TBMs working on a routine and almost predictable basis, the job will be over, the TBMs get disbanded and the crews, now competent in their operation, get spread to the four winds.

What a dream it would be if they just kept going all the way to University Boulevard.

There is a new station being built on the Canada line in Richmond some 13 years after the line opened for traffic.

If the tunnel was already there, we could follow the tunnel completion with stations and track at our leisure.

One point, to make sure that this is a Broadway line discussion and not an extension to UBC post is to point out that if they went just 500 meters further from Arbutus and laid track inside it, it would be a good place to store trains overnight.

Let us assume that 6 full trains were kept there overnight. That way trains could leave in both directions at start of the day on a equal basis. That would make the M Line fully functional in two directions and not just some kind of "bring in the workers by day to a central point and then bring them back home at night" sort of thing.

That would start to use the M Line as I see it finally ending up .. as a fully functional, multi directional artery when all one could really want is to live somewhere (anywhere) along the line and have access to everything on a whim.

Just an idea, in case some Translink people are reading this.

They can just leave cars parked anywhere along the line they don't need a dedicated section of track beyond Arbutus to achieve that.

Here we go again... Tunnel boring is the part that takes the longest time and costs the most to do. This isn't a video game and we can't 'just keep going'.

Also what does the new Canada Line station have to do with this - it's above ground and not the first time we've added a station after a line has opened.

This isn't a TransLink project, the BC Govrnment are building it. TransLink will have responsibility for it once it's built.

Ignoring the need for over a billion dollars that haven't yet been committed to pay for a tunnel going west from Arbutus, there's also no final route, no final decisions about how much of that route is tunelled, and no detailed geological investigation to determine if there are potential problem areas of ground, and whether a slightly different route might avoid those problems.

They don't just launch a TBM saying 'There you go Phyllis, see what the ground is like over there'.

It would make for a wonderful Transit Fantasy storyline, though... tales of the day TransLink engineers sent a fleet of autonomous AI-powered TBMs on their merry way to carve out a dozen or so new SkyTrain routes.

And therefore discussion belongs in the fantasy containment thread, not here.

Interesting technique for future proofing their waterproof membrane

Quote:
Orange waterproofing membrane is being installed in the new stations to keep them dry.

Seen here, crews are also installing “grout pipes” throughout the waterproofing layer. This allows crews to patch any future holes in the waterproofing, even after the station is complete.

They also gave an updated state on the number of liners per km

Quote:
♀️ Bored 2km of parallel tunnels
♀️ Installed a total of 2,600 concrete-liner rings in the tunnels

Early 2026. I think mid-2026 is more plausible..
