Taken from Millenium Park within city limits. This is where the Kootenay river flows into the Columbia river:

Amazing Ottawa and Montreal pictures

Just out of curiosity what ever happened to the plan to take down the CIBC antenna? Is that still going to happen?

And who can tell me what building that is in Ottawa with the blue and red faced in the fourth picture? Looks awesome from that angle

I have always known it as the Chambers Block. It is home to the National Capital Commission.

I've always loved the West Block. Extremely under appreciated building.

Judging by the above set, someone seems to be a fan of the Price Building...

I know I'm a broken record but I like to remind people that it wouldn't exist, had architectural heritage protection groups prevailed. Makes one think!

I notice a couple others things too. One is that there are some newer looking or remodeled buildings in these scenes, but they're relatively nice and unobtrusive. Another is that there are a lot of little details that have either been maintained or enhanced over the years.

That scene is pretty impressive yet when you look at details they're all over the place. Little bits of old brick sidewalk, generic suburban style asphalt and concrete curbs (this is a kind of wannabe arterial), a quasi-strip mall with a Tim Horton's, and then the exceptional heritage buildings on the left combined with some great office developments.

Halifax has so many "almost great" scenes like that. Improve the streetscape a bit, replace the strip mall/law courts area with a medium sized building similar to Queen's Marque (to define the curve of Lower Water St while allowing the layered effect of Purdy's in behind), and it would be great.

Something else I notice (which you've pointed out before) is the awning-as-an-architectural-gesture on the right, which could easily be extended out over the sidewalk (clearly it's designed with that intent) and yet never is

The architectural mish-mash feels quintessentially Canadian to me: it's definitely not Europe, because of the strip mall... it's definitely not New England, because of the conspicuous newer stuff. I do agree that the ferry terminal area could use an upgrade though - it feels notably stale compared to its surroundings.
