Anyone else look at this and think... wow that place is going to smell awesome in the summer and a westerly wind.

(That building that's kind of greyed out in the top right of the plot of land is a Waste Management trash facility)

Isn't Korman doing this just to hold the development rights, rather than to actually build something?

Any development that replaces a parking lot is a good development. This is really nice infill and brings alot to Sansom at street level. Rittenhouse Square is really turning into a monster.

Woot!

Residents of Fishtown got their first look Tuesday night at how a bend in a forgotten cobblestone alley could be transformed into an entertainment thoroughfare, anchored by a Live Nation concert venue, bowling alley and country western bar and grill.

Canal Street North would be the first phase of the proposed Penn Treaty Village, said Michael Samschick, president of Core Realty, at a packed meeting of the Fishtown Neighbors Association.

His plan is to convert into multiple new uses the shuttered Ajax Metal Company near Frankford and North Delaware Avenues, across from SugarHouse Casino. Live Nation would open a 3,000-seat Fillmore Theater, which would be about the same size as its Tower Theater in Upper Darby.

The Ajax property would also house the 18-lane bowling alley, a restaurant, retail space, offices and a tasting room for a local distillery. Samschick did not disclose the operators, but said he would be ready t

Yeah they are now moving dirt at the Wanamaker site and a bunch of new equipment showed up in the last week or two.

Construction on the Walnut Street Bridge is set to wrap up this week as crews complete work on the north-side pedestrian right-of-way, remove overhead structures and restripe the vehicle and bicycle lanes.

These improvements, while not much more different aesthetically, should really make a big difference in making the Walnut St Bridge more pedestrian friendly. It's certainly a step in the right direction.

PREIT buying building from Vornado, setting stage for Gallery renovation

Philadelphia Business Journal by Natalie Kostelni, Reporter
Date: Monday, September 24, 2012, 10:12am EDT

Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust is buying the 901 Market St. office building from Vornado Realty Trust and is closing in on an announcement about its top-to-bottom renovation to the Gallery along East Market Street in Philadelphia, according to people familiar with the matter.

The overall project, including acquisition and renovation costs, is pegged at roughly $300 million.

PREIT has long discussed a phased project that would transform the Gallery into a modern, upscale urban mall with more dining options and retailers that appeal to consumers who are fashion-conscious and keep up with style trends. The building would be turned inside out with storefronts overlooking Market Street. PREIT had hoped to have started on the project last year but a launch is expected to be announced by year end, according to a person familiar with the plans.

A new sign district was formed along that part of Market Street that allows high-tech animated, digital billboards on buildings. It was a key component to the revitalization of East Market since revenue generated from advertising on those signs will help finance some of the development costs.
