that would be cool, a crystal clear tower at night and then a dark gray/black one in the day. would be expensive though

^ I'm all for form=function, but I'm not sure how I feel about those vents. Kind of too "mechanical" looking for such a prominent riverfront site

^ At first I thought you were talking about the photo just above your post, and was going to say those vents are only on the western face, but you're talking about the first of the five photos, aren't you. Perhaps it's less than ideal but they could also be construed as pretty cool.

-------

I guess this is old news, but the base of the building appears in a drive-by scene in a Honda car commercial airing this spring and also currently. It features the founder of (our very own) Dark Matter Coffee but may be a national spot.

A few shots from June

The big crane has climbed all the way up the elevator shaft, it could climb back down but it wouldn't fit out the doors - so the big crane brings up a little derrick crane.

on the skyline from Oak Park (you can see the big climbing crane on top)

Glazing the bottom might look nice - but it poses some challenges.

^ Yes, the derrick can lower all the pieces of the main crane. The derrick itself can be disassembled by hand into pieces small enough to fit in the freight elevator.
