Wow Karl Lagerfeld!? Very swanky, that's the kind of premium outlet that shoppers will really be impressed by. Karl stores are not common at all, most of their merchandise is carried through department stores or other stores, especially in North America. It looks like we're joining Miami, New York, Chicago, Carlsbad and San Diego as North American locations (the latter two being in outlet malls as well, so likely a model for the McArthurGlen store?). Either way, a very prestigious addition. What's the vacancy situation like there nowadays? Their website only lists stores, it doesn't show them on an interactive map the way a lot of malls do. Those maps are interesting because you can see what units are vacant, to gauge how a mall is doing. But not McAG, you'd have to see in person. Just curious if they are managing to keep occupancy high with the current buildings, or if the expansion could come sooner.
In other Richmond news, Daiso opening in Lansdowne, taking a huge space. I have no idea how that mall survives, but it seems to keep trudging along. It has too many things to be a dead mall, but isn't lively enough to be thought of in the same category as Richmond Centre, Pac Centre, Guildford, etc. It's a weird in between spot, that just manages to keep several high profile stores, a good food court, and still new store openings (ie. Daiso). I feel like dead malls mean everything is sad, and the food court has like one restaurant, and there's no anchors left, etc. Lansdowne doesn't check any of those boxes, but it's store selection and randomness disqualify it from being in the league of all the other malls in the Lower Mainland (maybe International Village is kinda comparable in that middle ground between totally dead and bumping? It's the only one I can think of?)
