City Market's Facebook Page
https://www.facebook.com/LoblawsCityMarketThePost

Lot's of posts and pics from Dave, the owner.

Though I wish they wouldn't use 'Post Office' in the page title.

Ron.

They did an excellent job on this building. They expanded it but maintained the architectural integrity of the original building. This is building renewal done right.

The only thing I find odd is the uplighting along the bottom edge of the post office facade.
It creates stripes up the facade which I think is inconsistent with the modernist look.
Widely cast flood lighting from lampposts set back near the sidewalk (only on the Georgia side) would have looked better.

I think along Dunsmuir they have some signage up for new tenants and the JRG logo seemed like it was covered over

Lots of new photos? in this DH article.

Quote:
With a critical mass of office workers in the area, the store will offer enhanced online shopping and pick-up options through the chain’s PC Express service, including the pick-up option from the parkade.

Sherwood says all Loblaws City Market customers will have access to free parking with purchase. An entire parking level is dedicated to the needs of customers shopping at the grocery store, with access to the parkade located on the Hamilton Street side of the building.
Quote:
Sherwood shared that he will be opening a Starbucks within The Post’s retail atrium on Homer Street at ground level, near the main entrance into Loblaws City Market. This will be a full-service Starbucks with ample seating, opening the same day as the grocery store.

probably would have to be like waterfront station, and be on the city lamp standards to be far back enough. i doubt the city would ever agree to that.

The Georgia side is probably the only side with enough of a setback to stay on private property.

Here's the nighttime lighting I think looks odd, or maybe they just need to add more strips to fill the gaps?
It makes the modernist facade look more busy and cluttered than before.

eek. that looks rough. yeah i hadnt seen it at night lit up. dont like it.

it needs to be turned down, more of a diffused glow vs a bunch of spotlights. the light beam from those strips is too narrow.

i dont remember being able to see in the windows on the original building. is that something new? that makes it busier.

Plus the spotlights aren't consistently on - some seem to have failed already.

The original layout for the Post Office may have only had 2 floors above ground level.
I think the bands of green spandrel are new to hide the new slabs.

I think the nighttime lighting looks nice. Definitely something different and playful

Maybe they are just burning in the lights and they won't be that bright?

Thanks.
That shows that only the red tile spandrel strip is an original floor slab.
The new green glass spandrel strips are new floors inserted into the high ceiling'd space.

I think mid block there were regular height floors with the double height only at the Georgia and Dunsmuir ends.

Edit: There was one extra floor mid block (mechanical?) otherwise they were even across the building.

Two floors above grade from Homer, three from Hamilton.

Or there were sub-floors along the side of the building or ends?

https://skyscraperpage.com/forum/sho...&postcount=472

EDIT: Found the original architectural drawings on the rezoning application

https://web.archive.org/web/20200501...alDrawings.pdf

I guess the side that faced Dunsmuir had 5 floors but it was only four floors facing West Georgia.

Just for reference here's the index page with all the other documents for the old 2016/2017 submission

Sounds like JRG's Post venture is going to be dumped into bankruptcy.

Doesn't sound like things will be finalized until Feb/March next year.

My curiosity sits with wondering if any of the TI had started or if the place just sits bare unfinished. One can assume that if they haven't started work this food hall venture could be at least a year or two off?

I doubt they did any TI on the space. By the time they were ready to do the build out I'm guessing they had zero cash to start anything.
