Someone claimed there were constant shootings, the streets were ruled by gangs, you couldn't go out after dark, and entire nabes were so dangerous even the police wouldn't risk entering them. My mother was really stressed about it. Most people didn't have that kind of wild imagination but I don't think we heard a single positive sentiment.
That sounds exactly like the Halifax I heard about the first summer I went to visit my dad after he was posted to Halifax in the early 80's. Of course, he lived in the nice seclusion of Wallis Heights right beside the McKay Bridge on the Dartmouth side. As a 13 year old, I was allowed free roam of Dartmouth, but under no circumstances was I to cross the harbor without one of my step siblings, and "by god, don't go anywhere near Gottingen St" lol.

Funny you should mention that. I have a significant part of my family that are Nova Scotia Acadiens, and while not based in Halifax obviously, you reminded me that I did have some old aunts who lived there and I definitely recall them talking about Gottingen Street as if it was some kind of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Good one to mention.

I still think that most Quebec City residents think the city is pretty much right-sized at the moment.

The CAQ has probably given up on Montreal, too many maudit Anglais............

Quebec needs a second metropolis - a pur laine one which is linguistically pure and unblemished by contact with the anglophone rabble in the rest of North America.

A Market building? A knock-off replica of a Market building from the 19th century? How the hell is that going to grow Québec City into a metropolis?

Ask our dear friend François about it I am not bilingual, this is why I chose the expression "floating around". Maybe it was not appropriate. This project appeared out of nowhere a month ago. It's looming. And not too serious yet.

Weird that you live there and don't speak a lick of French. How the hell do you get by?

Maybe he doesn't consider himself bilingual the other way around. Maybe he doesn't consider his English skills to be good enough. He might have made his post with the aid of a translation program.

It is at least borderline illegal these days. Another few years and they will be rounding up the anglophones and placing them in concentration camps.

"Metropolis" sounds like a huge stretch, but some of the more concrete ideas aren't that bad.

Not very professional from a radiologist to spent time during the day on an internet forum and make wildly inappropriate comments like that.

You need help man.

I'm not the only one on here during the workday.

It's stress relief. Read a half dozen CT scans, spend a couple of minutes seeing whats new on SSP.

Rinse and repeat.
