Love that! Wish Toronto kept more of the industrial grit from its past. Shiny glass condos are so much less interesting.

Wow. A ton of potential here. With Calgary's massive population boom, are there any cool developments proposed in this area?

It does but they've made an absolute disaster of their riverfront in that section. It's a chaotic mess of highway like overpasses on both sides. That may have passed muster before but if they have any designs on becoming a prominent city of consequence they'll need to tear it up and start over. They could learn a lot about how to design an interface between city and river by studying London's Embankment. I suspect it will take 40-50 years before Calgary re-builds it into an attractive urban space. I've thought about a move to Calgary but 40 years is too long to wait for urbanization.

Metrotown is impressive. What's the deal with the skywalk to the Skytrain? It's still there, but no longer connected? Any plans to mitigate?

I thought that Plaza 124 building in Edmonton was Calgary City Hall for a moment. Unrelated, I noticed a few days ago that the Epcor Tower, briefly the tallest in Edmonton, was never really prominent. It's separation from the traditional downtown doesn't help.

I thought the same thing initially

Oh, interesting. Yeah, I'm glad that Edmonton's grown around the Epcor Centre, to bring it more into the core....although I say this as someone viewing Edmonton from Google streetview.

EDIT: I was debating posting this as my current camera is my cell phone, but I found this view of Toronto's skyline interesting, even if I've seen a version if it a lot over the years. This clearing of woods is related to the new Ontario Line subway.

5. Make streets narrower
6. Replace grid plan with organically evolved medieval-style mess of streets like in London

That should do it.

I know Halifax extremely well and yet in most skyline views the only thing that allows me to identify the city from the water is Purdy's Wharf.

Development in East Village stagnated with the pandemic but developers have bought some lots and the central part of it will have a pedestrian street that cuts through the whole village diagonally called the Riff.

There's been a lot of construction but it hasn't generated much in the way of distinctive downtown skyline impact. Queen's Marque is nice, and it's 450,000 square feet, but it's only 10 floors or so. The Nova Centre complex is something like 1 million square feet and could have been a 30 storey mixed use tower but it's under height limits. TD was a good project but blends in with everything else.

The most distinctive highrises are outside of downtown like 7177 Quinpool Rd. Dartmouth is getting a 3x40 floor apartment development. We'll see how beautiful it is but it'll be noticeable.

That is very outdated. Missing the library and National Music Centre.

I do see that Verve Condos has the diagonal cut for the pedestrian street.

The blue buildings in the middle, what's that supposed to be?
