Austin's central business district is home to a large share of the city's residents, jobs, entertainment centers, and cultural and park space. According to the Downtown Austin Alliance, the area is home to:

Around 14,300 residents, up from 13,648 estimated in last year's report

At least 117,000 employees, up from 106,500 last year

At least 14,000 hotel rooms and 10,500 residential units, up from 13,514 hotel rooms and 9,447 units last year

Projections from the Downtown Austin Alliance show the buildings that are underway will bring more than 11,000 new residences and 3,000 hotel rooms to Austin's core.

It'll go nicely with fallopian tube grandstands at DKR.

Cool, have been looking forward to this.

However, I wish they could incorporate the closing of Riverside west of Lamar into this project. Build a large enough parking garage so that parking for this and Zach can use it and dump those cars onto Toomey. Closing Riverside west of Lamar would make for a better park entrance and remove a light cycle from the bottleneck that is Riverside and Lamar. Just my two cents.

I like the idea of it opening out on to the sidewalk. We need more of that in general in this city.

I still love the One American Center. Inside and out, it's still one of our best.

So how close are we getting to downtown being “full”, once all the current planned and proposed projects are done? Where the vast majority of lots are already developed in a manner where it’s unlikely any will be redeveloped again soon (ie no one is tearing down the Frost to rebuild it higher)

Funny you say that. All the green buildings are planned in the last underdeveloped districts in DT. After that -- in the 2030s, maybe? -- the city's going to have some hard decisions to make.

Though one caveat -- if the I-35 CVCs go away, we'll all the sudden have a new district to obsess over.

The I-35 CVC will Have to be reevaluated once the freeway reconstruction is completed. The land owners will see to that. The Capitol will no longer be visible from many of the existing points along the highway. However, by then Austin my not be boom town any more.
