We are that generation, like the generation in the 1920/30's in pic above, that is witnessing the greatest transformation in the cities history (skyline wise).

I agree.

Saw the skyline off the GWB last night.. and 432 TOWERS above Midtown! Once they light this baby up it's gonna outshine the ESB! There is a new king in Midtown! Yes, the ESB is iconic and can't be replaced, but 432 is going to dominate height wise!

100% True!

But in 2018 there will be a new king: Nordstrom Tower!

I think that visually it will be a tie. That tiny antenna doesn't have any impact visually. and while Nordstrom may still be a bit taller it won't be obviously so at least from the angle you show here. Along with that, 432 is a bit "bolder" looking and draws the eye. Nordstrom is sleek, so while some may is it is better looking, I think people will look at 432 first. Either way, this is fantastic to see.

BTW I love that in this new ere of the skyline that ESB will still be prominent. Nod to the past and embrace the present!

Nordstrom will be 100 ft. taller than 432 Park to roof, and will be sitting on higher elevation. So it will definitely look taller.

Visited NYC at the end of August for the first time in 15 years.

432 Park Ave is cool and all... but from close up you really don't get a feel for how tall it is. If I didn't already know that it was taller than the ESB, I would have said there was absolutely no way this building was even close to that in height. I assume this is due to how "skinny" the building is. All a matter of perspective, I suppose, as it looked huge when we were coming up to the Lincoln Tunnel.

I agree, its a matter of perspective. From I-78 heading into Newark, and around both the Lincoln Tunnel and Holland Tunnel, it does indeed look massive. If you want some amazing views, West New York on the Jersey Side, or even South Edgewater can give you an idea of how large it is. A little known place for amazing NYC views is also within the proximity of Branch Brook Park in Newark. Some streets allow you a great, elevated view of the city.

Strange. I thought that if a building is skinny it seems higher.........

It does. Maybe its because I see ut all the time, but the Empire State itself doesn't seem as tall as it is in close proximity. But the Twin Towers were the same way. I do know that standing beneath this building, you get a sense that it's impossibly tall. And still a bit more to go.

Although it still dominates from I-78 heading into Newark. Still the first building I focus on when heading into Broad Street in Newark from McCarter Highway. It always will stand the test of time. Taller towers may eclipse the ESB, but the king will always demand respect, and will get it too!
