thanks for that great picture! here's my daytime shot of the San Gennaro. I think it may be the same intersection from a different corner(?), or a block up. But I missed the appearance by this year's grand marshal, the legendary Connie Francis (an enormously popular singer of Italian-American heritage from the 50's & early 60's, for those too young to know ), a block east!

You just have to love the new Gardens by the Bay...easil one of the most spectacular parks in an urban environment. Great photo!

Nice shots guys. Bulliver, I like the deadbolt in your shot, keep those zombies out!

Took this over the summer:

Zapped by Porter Yates, on Flickr

A few months ago, flickr created a new "large size" for their photos. 1600x1067, at least for photos uploaded after March/April. I'm curious what you guys think. Is the image above too big to be seen on small displays? I have a hi-res monitor so I don't have to scroll but when I view on my laptop I think the large size detracts from the image. I'm wondering if a thread would be better or worse if all the images were 1600x1067.

It's too big for my laptop, and I have a 15 inch screen.

I figured it was too big. Maybe not an issue for one shot but I think a whole thread of large images would be frustrating.

Cool shots toyota74.

Yep. No photos of the interior at all, bulliver. BTW, what the heck is that thing you photographed? Almost looks like some equipment for an aquarium, something like that!

LOL, no, not a bong. It is the mercury-arc rectifier at Fort Edmonton Park which converts alternating current to direct current to power the parks streetcars and trolleys. It is top of the line 1905 technology. Sadly, we captured the very last time it will be fired up. Due to environmental regulations it is being decommissioned and replaced by a modern solid state rectifier.

Short clip of the thing in action:
