Lori Loughlin has been ousted by Hallmark’s parent company, Crown Media, after she was charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud in connection with a sweeping college admissions scheme.

On Wednesday, Loughlin appeared in court and was released on a $1 million bail. She and her husband, designer Mossimo Giannulli, allegedly agreed to pay $500,000 to guarantee their two daughters – Olivia Jade and Isabella Rose – admission to the University of Southern California as members of the crew team, though neither was an athlete.

Some failed mall concept if I remember correctly, the owner is some useless idiot who lives in Arizona or Nevada I believe and won't budge on how he wants to lease the building. I thought there was interest a few years ago from a charity that would take the entire building?

Dunno, When I lived in the area 2005-2008 it was always fenced off but with one or two random inaccessible displays in the windows. I think it was still incomplete at the time I moved there as there was occasional work on and off inside but never any tenant, just a crumbling For Lease sign in the parking lot. Also seems the deal the article is boasting about fell through.

It would likely make a good school building if it had space for a field next to it. (which they could if they bought the houses on either side of it) It was for sale last November, hopefully something happens with it and not demolition, it's a pretty nice building for the 90's.

What’s the strangest part about the 104th Avenue Centre? It’s been vacant ever since it was built.
Since 1998, just after building completion, the centre has never had a purpose. Aside from a few special events and film work, there have been no long-term tenants.
According to The Now, originally known as “The Asian Centre”, the building was bought by a lawyer from Arizona, Donald Pitt, who renovated 104th Avenue Centre to what it is today.
Since Pitt bought the building back in the 2000s, he has desired a single tenant for it.
The RCMP, Fraser Health and SFU have inquired about renting the centre, but the deals always fell through.

yes she is in it. She has mellowed a lot in her 40's. She was a pretty spoiled child actress when she did it back in the day. Having survived cancer recently too has changed her.

Everyone’s favourite 1980s extra-terrestrial has returned to Earth, making a stop in North Vancouver.

E.T. was brought back to life for an Xfinity commercial for Comcast that was shot on Patterdale Drive in the District of North Vancouver earlier this fall.

The commercial, which is more than four minutes long, features the original E.T., who was brought here from the Smithsonian where he had been on display for years. The video also features a grown-up Elliot played by Henry Thomas, the same actor who portrayed E.T.’s young friend in the 1982 Steven Spielberg film.

The production featured two homes and a cul-de-sac in North Vancouver’s Capilano neighbourhood, along with scenes shot on Burnaby Mountain.

Cable TV, streaming services are boosting annual demand for festive film productions

Those earnest Christmas movies invading cable TV channels the moment jack-o’-lanterns hit the landfills each year have become such a yuletide staple that even Saturday Night Live has taken to parodying them.

But in Vancouver, made-for-TV Christmas movies that seemingly underpin winter programming for the Hallmark or Lifetime channels are serious business.

“In the under-$3-million world is where Vancouver seems to have found a niche … where we can make these movies, and they look good, and we can produce them for a fair price,” said Shawn Williamson, Lighthouse Pictures Inc. partner and executive producer.

Williamson is best known in Vancouver’s film industry as the president of Brightlight Pictures Inc., which produces fare such as ABC’s The Good Doctor TV series and Seth Rogen’s 2014 comedy, The Interview.

He and business partner Jamie Goehring launched Lighthouse in 2012 after the latter observed a market emerging for mid-budget TV movies known for sentimental scripts and festive musical cues.

The company now produces about 20 movies a year for Hallmark.

“It started slowly and has built into quite a thriving business,” Williamson said.

Christmas Town and A Blue Ridge Mountain Christmas are among Lighthouse productions debuting on the Hallmark Channel, while Lifetime airs A Very Vintage Christmas.

And at least six different Christmas-themed movies from other production companies were filmed in B.C. in July alone, according to activity logged by non-profit agency Creative BC.
