D&A Companies to build condo project near Southside

rendering in the article shows a 7-story building. can't really tell where it's going on the site, though.

from the article:

D&A Companies plans to make further additions to a mixed-use campus it’s planning near Southside.

The campus, located at 2222 Arlington Avenue South, will include a 28-unit condo project called The Tramont, D&A Companies said on Nov. 11.

Construction on the Tramont is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2022, with occupancy targeted in the third quarter of 2023. The project will cost somewhere in the mid-$30 million range.

ok, this is a much bigger project than i realized:

J.M. Smucker Co. plans $1.1B project in Jefferson County

J.M. Smucker Co. (NYSE: SJM) is planning a huge project in JeffMet McCalla Industrial Park.

County officials said the project represents the largest capital investment in the county's history and will create 750 jobs. The Birmingham Business Journal first reported about the project on Monday, but new details on the company's plans came to light on Thursday as the county approved an incentive agreement for the project.

Ground work is expected to start Nov. 29, according to Jefferson County Commissioner Steve Ammons. Production is expected to start in 2025.

I didn't get any pictures because it was dark out, but there finally seems to be stuff happening at both The Pipeline and Macaroni Lofts sites (which incidentally are on the same block).

The Pipeline was approved more than 3 years ago, while Macaroni Lofts was announced 2.5 years ago... not sure what's taken so long on these. Glad to see development in Parkside slowly marching south and connecting with UAB though.

I enjoy your post over on CityData. Only reason I stop here is because there isn't a Tuscaloosa sub-forum on there.

This place seems dead.

yeah, it's odd... this used to be the most active of the few forums i visit. C-D definitely has replaced it though, in terms of activity.

not a big deal, really, as i simply copy and paste from there to here... just wasn't sure if anyone was reading haha.

I am reading, I check daily but I do not have much to post lately. As the pipeline apartments, I think that equipment is for the Marconi lofts and the Transit Authority is placing one the BRT stops at that intersection 13th Street and 5th Avenue S.

the Kelly Hotel appears to be complete from the outside... i drive by it every night. the lights are on in the lobby, but i never see anyone in there.

checked the website, and it looks like December 30th is the first night that rooms are available. not sure why it got pushed back... was hoping it would be open for the bowl game at least (unless it's sold out?).

Southtown Court demolition begins, clearing the way for new mixed-use housing development

On December 17th, community members, officials and representatives from the City of Birmingham and Jefferson County Commission gathered on a drizzly Friday afternoon to witness the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD) begin the long-awaited demolition of Birmingham’s Southtown Court. After demolition, which is expected to be complete by May 2022, construction will begin on a new mixed-use housing and commercial development.

According to a press release from the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District, demolition is expected to be completed by May 2022. Once demolition is complete, work will begin on the redevelopment of Southtown Court, transforming the 22-acre site into a mixed-use housing & commercial development.

The redevelopment will begin with the construction of 280 affordable housing housing for low-income families and seniors, while future plans include market-rate apartment and commercial buildings with space for groceries, retail and hotel space. In addition, the new development of Southtown Court can be expected to exceed 1.3 Million square feet, including 3.5 acres of green space and parking sites that have the capacity to accommodate 2,500 cars.
