18 as per the owner's own words in the Journal of Commerce article.

They have been working late every night this past week and all weekend on the foundation. They still seem to have a lot to do

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Capital Pointe's construction will be as aggressive as this...once the bldg is finally demolished and cleared away.

One and a half weeks ago, an acquaintance of mine (whom works on that site) said that they --- at that time --- were 3 weeks behind. I'm sure that they are making-up for that now.

Do we have a date as to when this will be reaching ground level?

Also, once they hit ground level they should be able to do a floor a week, right?

It's amazing they can get anything done at all with constant cold and snow. How do they pour concrete in sub temperatures anyway? Must be fast setting. I always thought temps needed to be above zero for concrete to cure properly.

Tarps and heaters.

There's a couple of infill houses going up across the street from my parents house in Regina and Dad was saying they just came one day last month and poured the foundation for one of the houses on a very cold day, no hoarding. As for the Mosaic site I don't remember seeing any hoarding either in any of the pics or web cam but I could be mistaken.

Doesn't look like anything is tarped in on a major concrete pour.

im a second yr apprentice carpenter, and you can use tarps and heaters, or accelerators in the concrete, the best temperature to pour concrete in is 5- 10 degrees, if you tarp and heat, and temperature is above ten, that will be perfect, you will not get maximum strength within your conrete, if you do not tarp and heat, rebear has to be warm to be able to stick to the concrete as well, if not heated or tarp, concrete will be poor and your rebar will not stick, i was on a bridge in calgary, we were to pour one day, but the pour was cancelled for a day due to the cold rebar.

also that photo, they will have it at least heated, you obviously can not see it in the above photo, look towards where the black hose of the pump is, even that you cant see

It is tough to tell in the pic but one would assume it's being tarped and heated,it's just never been obvious in the Mosaic project that there's ever been any visible tarping anywhere. As for the house foundation I mentioned above there was no heat or tarping used and it was a bloody cold day. I wondered if there were new methods of pouring concrete in cold weather that I was not aware of but it sounds to me like cutting corners in boom times. Just get it done quick,no time to tarp. And that's probably one of the reasons why you see cracks in the foundations and floors of new homes and garage floors shortly after moving in. Thanks for the info kiwi.

I know that before Christmas they were pouring concrete for the pool at North Battleford's new aquatic centre. I believe they were using heaters.

You don't want to pour past about -25... Even with additives, heating, hoarding.
