THIS.

It is absolutely horrific. Thunder Bay has a higher percentage of university graduates than Winnipeg, but you wouldn't know if by checking our Facebook groups!

Four more homicides in the GTA during the last 12-24 hours, one in Brampton. one in Mississauga, one in Vaughan and one in Toronto proper.

Ottawa is at two following one during the previous weekend. Both homicides appear gang-related (probably drug-dealing related as well)

Last winter was obviously a lot colder, but seems strange Toronto murders are so high.

I search but couldn't find the answer: did we ever get >= 100 homicides in a city ever in the past?

Toronto's in the early 1990's came close. But never touched 100.

There was a murder last weekend in Hamilton, however there's a big debate happening as many believe it isn't murder.

A person from Six Nations (Oshweken) was trying to steal a truck in the driveway and the homeowner shot and killed the person. The police charged the homeowner with second-degree murder.

If there are folks out there who think it's OK to shoot someone who may be trying to steal your parked truck, then I fear they will not be happy with how this case turns out.

I don't know if the data is up to date, but if it is, there hasn't been a single murder in the entire province of Quebec since Jan 1st - that's almost 6 weeks. Impressive!

Impressive numbers for Montreal. The city's murder rate has plummeted since the 70's, and even in the past decade.

Anyone know if Statscan counts a killing in self-defence as part of their homicide stats?

Stat Can just reports what the police report, so it depends on whether the police declare it to be homicide or not.

Is Montreal still at zero? I think it is.

Ottawa had its third last night.

Gatineau almost has its first on Saturday night.

Shooting in a quiet residential neighbourhood. Victim badly hurt but expected to survive.

House was rented to a bunch of ''students'' so they said, via airbnb. Shots rang out at a party they were having.

The owner of the house said the dudes that rented were from GTA and spoke no French.

According to the Citizen, the Ottawa victim, a 19 year old from Overbrook, named Mohammed Ali Hassan, was "known to the police". Sometimes it's like they are reporting the same homicide over and over again, if you know what I mean. At least the alleged killer has been arrested.

Indeed. Although the accused's last name is Leblanc, which doesn't follow the usual pattern these days.
