And about time. It had it's time, but the site has been a disgrace for decades now.

Are they just attaching the new glass curtain wall over the existing facade, or are they removing the existing facade before attaching the new curtain wall? It's tough to tell from the pictures.

They're removing the old windows but arent doing it until the new cladding is ready to be placed for obvious reasons.

What is the construction crane for? It can't be for the demolition of Hotel Pennsylvania, since it's on the other side of 7th Avenue.

There are several renderings on the previous page that show what they are adding to the seventh avenue side of the building.

It does look better, and it also has the effect of making the building "disappear", as I was confused looking at it one day without realizing it was "hidden" by the mirrored reflection. We could have gotten so much better, but this is a plus.

This is supposed to be complete sometime next year, so we should begin to see the addition taking shape soon.

Interestingly, the near-clone of this building downtown is also undergoing an extensive renovation. Goes to show how Manhattan's older office stock is in need of replacement.

Or refurbishment, to hang on a little longer. We see a lot of that around Manhattan. Not everybody can knock down and build new, but zoning certainly helps in that regard.

^ It is nice glass. It also seems to make the building disappear. I haven't decided if that's a good thing, or a bad thing. If all of the buildings that surround it are just featureless glass, that will be a bad thing. Whatever the opinion of 15 Penn is, it won't be that. Let's hope the towers of the new Penn District are more Midtown East, and less Hudson Yards.
