Yes, from the start. The cross-bracing was also originally proposed on Tower 3.

Only Tower 4 stayed pretty much the same from initial rendering release to now.

Probably because it was the most boring and cheapest to build.

4 WTC cost 1.67 Billion to build, There's nothing cheap about it. I quite like it, not every tower has to have every single gimmick tacked on to be nice.

That's insane! How much of that was for security related fortifications?

The cladding on 4WTC is very high quality. Also, the building uses fuel cells to generate electricity. Just read wiki to get informed about it. I have a feeling you may need to google fuel cells too. But that's okay.

Right now the Twin Towers are rolling in their desecrated gravesites. If Yamasaki saw the replacements to HIS towers, he would be absolutely disgusted

Have to agree. In hindsight perhaps they should have built a more modern version of The Twins (to avoid direct comparisons) and made them 1776ft roof height.

But hey Larry and co know best.....

I agree to a certain extent, but the current towers are so much better than some of the previous designs (900ft towers with hideous latticework) that I think a nice looking 2 and 5 WTC will make this a pretty kick ass complex.

I hope the city doesn't make the 1776 height sacred or anything and surpasses it someday soon. Good to see some buildings are already doing so roof wise.

Yeah, building a replacement set of twins would definitely have eliminated any direct comparisons with the originals!

Who cares? He's dead, and so is his awful school of architecture. Get over it. The Twin Towers were a scar on the city's landscape.

The originals were never spectacular in terms of creativity, being two large boxes, but I must admit there was a sense of beauty, because of their size and height, and had their own special trademark to them. Now I'll admit in the beginning, I would have liked to have them back, but I knew in today's economy that design was likely not economically feasible. Now as far as the concept that Leibeskind initially proposed, was a nightmare. In my mind that was ugly, and well the powers that be apparently felt the same way, and I do like the #1 tower the best for the reason that it is as tall as the originals, and #3,4 are nice looking also. Now as far as #2 and #5 are concerned, I expect some equally pragmatic and realistic designs. I actually like the idea behind the diamond shaped roof, while not my favourite type of design, but it's idea had something to do with the angle of the sun as it is on that particular date, (September 11) shining light toward the memorial pools, I believe it was which is creative, but whatever is built there hopefully will either be of that type of significance or some other creative innovative design, even if it is another "box".

You people still fighting about the Twin Towers???

Meanwhile, 3 WTC is filling up, so it's a matter of time before tower 2 takes the stage...

Frankly, I don't see a huge difference. In fact, when I first saw it, I thought it was inspired by the Foster design, from the diamond top to the facade.

I don’t see the diamond top.

P.S.: I looked at it quickly and now realize that the western facade, where the sloped roof would be, is not shown.
